Feeding enough??
I got my Ali (10 mths) from dogs trust 3 wks ago. Not jad a dog for years but but with all the help and advise on here and elsewhere, and previous traing he had before i got him, hes settled in like a dream. I was given Arden grange food for him, which is hard to get here in Dublin . Maxi Zoo store offered me select gold as a nearest substitute and Ali took to it with no problems at all. I give him the rec. amt stated for his weight on the pack split twice daily . Not only does it look like a tiny portion, but he never seems satisfied,as soon as he's finished he's always sniffs around or jumps my counters for ny food we are preparing or is lying around. He has a couple of treats during the day too. Shud I give him a smaller mid day feed or is he just chancing his arm for more grub??? He's also started eating his plastic dog basket, some of which he threw up this morning . He has plenty of chew toys, balls ect and also a kong. But it seems he's finding his basket and bedding tastier . Any suggestions oh wise ones???

Re: Feeding enough??
TBH the guidlines on the food are just that, guidelines. I always go on appearance of the dog/amount of exersize. I think to TBH staffs would eat till the cows come home if you let them, but if he is a healthy weight, you should be able to feel the ribs without them protruding, bright eyes and plenty of energy then your going in the right direction
As for the bed, well they will chew anything lol Xx

Re: Feeding enough??
Couldn't have put it better!
Re: his bedding. You could try some of the chew deterrent sprays from the pet stores or maybe Bitter Apple which you can get online.

Re: Feeding enough??
Yea its really only a guide on the packets as 2 how much to feed. My Ty is around the 18kg mark which means he should acording to the packet get less than Kaos who is around the 23/24kg mark. In fact Ty needs more than the packet states to maintain his healthy weight and condition but kaos needs less to help him lose a little. Kaos only has to look at food and it goes straight to his bum where as Ty is a lean machine who never puts on weight

Haha I know how poor Kaos feels. Thanks guys, Il go with givin him some more. He seems to be shedding a lot more in the last few days too. i dont know if its the new food or if it's just losing his winter coat ?? Friend suggested spoonfull of omega 3 oil once a wk to help his coat. Anyone tried that ??

Re: Feeding enough??
Either that, or cod or salmon liver oil will do the trick. You could also try giving him a tin of sardines in olive oil once a week.
