Worried Empty Worried

Post by Robyn2202 Wed Mar 27 2013, 08:26

We were out walking Zeke and Archie yesterday when a man came on the field with two Jack russels. Now the man said that one of them was grumpy when he had his ball but would not hurt any of my two. Zeke went to check out this Jack Russell and I knew the man had said he was grumpy so I was making Zeke keep his distance as he was off the lead but it went for Zeke really viciously and Zeke screamed. Ive never heard anything like it. I checked over Zeke and there is no injuries I think he just got a fright and I know I should of put Zeke on the lead but I felt like it would be ok as the man said he wouldn't go for Zeke or Archie. Straight Face
Anyway I got my self really worried as I know stories of where Staffies have been attacked by other dogs when they were puppies and now hate other dogs. I took Zeke straight to the Aunties who has other dogs to make sure he was still okay with other dogs and that he was his self which he was and now he is fine.

Do you think he will be okay with other dogs that he has never met before as we take him to the beach all the time.

I dont want him to hate other dogs and he is at puppy classes on Thursday Night.

Thank you

At this age he should hopefully be fine, just keep socialising him. The man should of kept his dog away if he felt is was aggressive, but it would also be an idea to try and keep Zeke away from these type of dogs whenever possible. Still however socialise at every chance with friendly dogs Smile

Roxy has had a puppy-aggressive dog have a go at her; she's had JRT's attempting to have a go at her; she's had a collie corner her and I and have a go - and still she thinks every single dog is her best friend and wants to play I dont want to s

I'm sure he'll be fine as long as you are cautious around other dogs (try not to be anxious as this projects!) and keep socialising him. Glad he has puppy school tomorrow - great opportunity to keep him socialising!

At that age he will be fine espically considering there were no injuries. Just keep socializing like you are.

He'll be fine Smile just try not to feel worried at all when out with him, because he may pick up on it and feel like there's something to be afraid of. But at his age they bounce back well, especially when no harm was done. Loki's been 'almost' attacked quite a lot of times when he was small and he loves dogs Big Grin

At his age he should be fine, just try and make the next few meetings with other dogs positive ones.

I doubt he'll have any long term problems because of it.

A mature staffy had a go at Bacchus in our classes a while back and he retaliated but he still loves to meet and play with other dogs. Only difference, and it's nothing to do with the altercation, he is totally disinterested in small dogs now, as they're not boisterous enough for him, but loves to play with big energetic dogs.

he will be fine, you have to portray confidence yourself. youd be suprised at how much a dog can be controlled by just your body langauge alone. as a pup hes looking to you as a leader and will be watching you closley over the coming months for your reactions to any situation. you have to realise your his mentor and guide now hes seperated from mum and will be looking to you for the answer to life lessons. so teach him well with calm and confident actions and youll be onto a winner. on the flip side the lil bugger will be testing just what he will be able to get away with so dont be to soft on him Laughing

I was watching Cesar Millan's DVD earlier this evening and to echo what Nathan said you would be surprised how much the dog picks up off you and how your feeling. One thing to try is to remain calm and controlled in those type of situations and not make too much of a big thing and distract the dog onto something else. Hope he isn't upset by his experience and has many more positive ones Smile

The main thing is to act normally. Act the same as you did before the incident or he will pick up on it and think something is wrong and he should attack first.
