Is it normal ....
As everyone should know i have got Inca & Sky who are both girls... Well i was just wondering if something that Sky does is normal (for a girl dog !!) ... When she has a widdle on her walks she kicks back with her back feet as if marking but we had a male dog (who we lost before getting Inca) who done this ALL the time after widdling... But Inca has never kicked back after having a widdle or a No2 ... So how come 1 of my girls kicks back an the other doesn't ... Stupid question i know but i just thought it was a thing males done an not females !!

Re: Is it normal ....
It's a thing that both genders can do. My last dog was female and she did it nearly every time but Logan has never done it.
Very normal

No idea tbh, neither my male or female do it, but I'd imagine it to be some kind of 'covering it up' action maby ?

Not a silly question at all.
Rocky does this all the time but I cannot remember my old dog Judy ever doing it. Sometimes I think Rocky is trying to bury me alive he gets quite carried away doing it.

Re: Is it normal ....
There could be any number of possibilities. The root reason is to do with pheremones, but seeing as we humans can't smell them, it's very difficult to pinpoint exactly what message those pheremones are giving off.
Dogs have scent glands in their paws, so extra pheremones would be given off when kicking dirt, which make the scent marking stronger (bitches also sometimes scent mark, just not as frequently as males). It may also be to cover up their scent left by peeing, as they don't want to be followed. Then again, pheremones aren't always about "Look at me, I'm a big strong alpha!" They can also be about letting others know that they aren't a threat.
Loads of possible reasons.

Zac always used to do it, Loki never does it. I don't think it's related to gender, just a random thing.
