Sometimes Willow will breath funny, like she is snortting and is licking when she does it. It won't last long but happens now and then out the blue. Is this normal for staffies and other dogs?

We comfort her to calm her down to see if it helps but we don't know why it happens and what to do.

I assume it's normal as mine do it sometimes , apparently the lip licking is supposed to be a sign of anxiety but I honestly do not agree in our case

Not sure but the bully breeds are known for snorting, snoring and noises due to short snouts.
If it distresses her then I'd take her for a checkup x

Is it the DAP plug in you were thinking of getting ??

Rocky has the DAP spray sometimes which helps to calm him during stressful times.

If you think it stresses her then have a word with your vet for peace of mind

It's a stafford thing apart from the short nose they have a lot of muscle to keep their wide heads and big jaws working properly and that can make them snort its also what makes them snore like drunken old men Big Grin

Could be reverse sneezing - our last dog did it quite a lot, and so does Skye sometimes. Don't think it's anything to worry about...

The Bully Breeds are the breeds that have been developed from the old Bull Dog x Terriers (usually called the Bull & Terrier Breed). They are traditionally the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, The Bull Terrier, The Miniature Bull Terrier, The American Pit Bull Terrier, The American Staffordshire Terrier and the Boston Terrier.

Also known as Blockheads! Laughing

Bullys do snort a lot, they are also very tricky and will do it more if they think it gets them somewhere. Try to ignore it but keep a close eye on it incase he needs it looked at.

Do u mean it looks like shes choking/heaving. Ours do that sometimes when they get something stuck in their throat. Its like how we would cough if a drink went down the wrong way. I just massage the throat and it tends to go away.

Nala licks her lips when she is told to 'stay' or 'wait' for something. Think she is just eager to get going or be given whatever it is she is waiting for.

sounds like reverse sneezing to me, can happen when a dog gets a little over excited.
