pup sleeping too much??
Hi all,
Lil Miss Lyra is 14 weeks old and boy does she sleep a lot. She normally wakes up at 7am, has some breakfast, then we do the school run (20-30mins round trip depending on how many people we bump into lol) and then takes herself off 2 her bed and sleeps from 9.30-1.30ish when I have to wake her for lunch. She then runs around the garden for all of 5mins then comes back in and sleep again till 3 when we go back on the school run. We are home by 4 she has her tea then its back off 2 sleep till I wake her up for supper and garden time and she comes back in crawls on the sofa and falls asleep till I wake her up to go for her last wee and then she's down from 11-7 again! My friend has her sister and she never stops and she commented that Lyra sleeps a lot, as I have never had a pup b4 I have nothing to compare to.
Thanks in advace

Re: pup sleeping too much??
Hi,
Everyone used to say that about Logan too. He was a very sleepyhead of a pup too. My advice is to enjoy it while it's there because once she gets a bit older and confident in herself she'll have more energy all of a sudden lol!

Lol that's what everyone is saying lately. She's been like this since the day I got her (except for those first few days when she was up 5 times a night from 12am-6am lol) she seems 2 just have a very laid back, chilled personality. She'll have a mad 5 mins once a day and then look as if to say "urgh I can't be bothered with this" then the next thing you hear is snoring and a long drawn out snort every now and then

Re: pup sleeping too much??
That will def change in a few months when she wants to explore. I used to carry Logan everywhere to keep him socialised and he'd have fell asleep in my arms as I walked or down the front of my jacket when he was really tiny

Re: pup sleeping too much??
Aww so does that mean I might have to stop showing off that she walks very nicely off lead (in very enclosed places where the nearest road is about half a mile away lol) if she decides she does indeed like the big outdoors and goes more than 6 foot away from me?? Lol

Well if you keep up what you're doing you'll have no problem. It sounds like you have a lovely well behaved pup

Re: pup sleeping too much??
Thanks Mat, she has her moments. She's not a big fan of tricks (can't say I blame her really lol) but basic commands she's coming on lovely with. It helps we have a beach nearby and she soon clicked onto the fact that "Lyra stop. Come back!" Really means "Lyra I've got a pocket full of yummy treats" lol

My honey is full of energy at six months bless her. And loves being off the lead when we are down the woods or on the south downs. She sounds a lovely puppy, keep up the good work. Just goes to show what staffies are really like bless them.

Re: pup sleeping too much??
Lol Dee I love the coaches I buy, honey loves them. And she and most other doggies know where they are in my pocket lol. Very rarely do I have to say good bye to honey and walk the other way bless her.

Re: pup sleeping too much??
Aww I know Kaz it maddens me when I have negative experiences with very ignorant people (and unfourtunatly for them I do tell them that lol) my sons dad has a 8 year old Staff and he is the reason I always wanted one (always said I loved the dog more ) my fav thing to tell people at the minute is "never mind the dog, you've got more chance of me biting!" Wish I could take a pic of their faces. Ahhh Lyra knows exactly which pocket her treats are hidden in and she somehow knows if I do actually have one in my hand or if I'm tricking her lol smart bum she is

Zeus used to sleep ALOT too, enjoy it while it lasts! Before you know it, they're up most of the day and you'll be dying for time by yourself!

Re: pup sleeping too much??
Lol I know what you mean there too lol Good for you. I have a varied view from people especially when first they look at her and say how well behaved she is and how calm she is and then they ask what is she. They are surprised. But hey it's not the dog, the owners should be looked at first. The majority of owners like us love our doggies to bits and would never treat them to fight or be nasty. There is no need for this stigma, just like the pit bulls. Such a shame that those few put a bad name to such a wonderful breed

Re: pup sleeping too much??
Kaz I think the best 1 I've had so far was a lady at the school who has a collie pup who is about 8 weeks older than Lyra. I was still carrying her at the time as she hadn't had her jabs and was talking to this woman and it was all the usual "how old? Boy or girl? Blah blah" while her pup was bouncing all ova everyone then she asked what breed and so I answered. I swear she took a step back and pulled her pup closer to her! Like my 8 week old tiny (and sleeping lol) pup was gona jump out my arms and maul her crazy pup! Doh! I think she was the only one who just got a roll of the eyes and a tut before I walked away.

Re: pup sleeping too much??
I can't believe some people. You can see those who just want to avoid you it's too obvious. It annoys me at times when the dog wants to say hello and the owners don't want them to, not fair on their dogs no wonder they have problems when socialising them. Dogs need to be dogs not humans.

Re: pup sleeping too much??
You can totally tell as well lol! Had a guy at the park walk the longer way round the other day as soon as he clocked Lyra, yep mate you should run coz she will do you some damage with her tail slapping left to right so much and let's not forget about her death lick lmao I always tend to find its people with small dogs that do it. When we run into bigger dogs their owners are always warning the dogs "now leave her alone she's too small to play with you" lol I like those people

Pups are only tiny, they use a loooot of energy just being alive. Sleeping is a good thing

Re: pup sleeping too much??
sleeping is what they do, Marley is crated for 4 hours at a time while im at work and the eye snot says she sleeps lol. she is 4 months now and starting to get wired up and independent. enjoy it while it lasts.
Re: pup sleeping too much??
At that age pups sleep a lot your lil one sounds very contented...nice routine with the school runs etc - and when shes older u could easily extend the school run walks. This is what I do with mine.
My 2 are basically slobs. They eat, sleep, fart, go for a walk, sleep some more etc. They are pretty chilled out.

Ahhh sounds like I really shouldn't get used to having a nice quiet lil girl tho she showed her first signs of stubborness today while off lead, decided that going nuts in the long grass was much more fun that listening to me calling her back lol bless her

Marley doesn't nap much while out of her crate, she fights her sleep because she doesn't want to miss anything lol
