protective staff
tell me please did yours staffys protect you're other dog(if you have two dogs)?i ask you because i was think that my max is like a bodyguard to mi sasha(westie)because did not let any dogs come close to her..anyway today was in park with my two dogs and a stupid owner come with his collie dog(a bitch)came close to my max was ok came close to sasha and she bite my little sasha on his back.the stupid owner did not do anything i run quick and take sasha in my arms..and my max was jumping on the other dogs back to hump her .i know is just a baby my max is 10 months and i don't want him to be aggressive to other dogs or stuff like that but he could protect her..maybe he forget because is to obsess to humps every dog he meet did not matter if he is a dog or a bitch thx every one and don't understanding me in a wrong way

It sounds like Max has just found the incident over exciting possibly and that's why he turned to humping. I find Logan is quite protective over my Mum. But he doesn't get aggressive, he just stands guards and pays close attention to whats going on.

If another dog comes up to Tilly or barks at Tilly , most of the time Tommy doesn't like it and will start growling etc

My sisters staff x protects their other dog, a cocker spaniel, she's gone for daisy before to protect him!

The way I'd do it would be the same way I try to stop Logan growling at certain dogs. Teach Max "Look at Me", where he must pay attention to you and he will get rewarded.
When he starts to get excited re-direct his attention be calling him, with a treat or a toy he likes and when the other dog has passed you give him the toy/treat and praise him.

i think its was just one of those situations especially as matt pointed out with the humping, sometimes pairs of dogs can get protective of each other

My partners 5 yr old boxer protects my 4 month old staffy when another dog gets aggressive. They have only know each other a couple of days and there best mates already.
