Scott is a 1 year old Staffie cross and is currently on foster in Bridgend.

The Scott Fact File
Dog status: Very good but can be excitable
Cat status: Very good.
Child status: Good but jumpy so older robust children that don’t mind a bouncy dog.
House training: Very good.
Home alone: Has been left for short periods but needs further work. Not suitable for full time workers.
Basic training: Excellent recall and knows to sit.

Scott is in foster with other dogs and has met dogs of various sizes and shapes outside the house and has been great with all. He is young and bouncy though and can be initially excited so further socialisation to rein in his enthusiasm is needed. He could be rehomed with other dogs or as an only dog with lots of company from humans.

Scott has been excellent with the cats in his foster home. He is also in foster with chickens and found these quite exciting. While he could go to home with chickens we would advise they are not free roaming and that careful introductions were made.

People – Scott loves people! He will jump up and give you a bid sloppy kiss! He is learning that it’s more polite to sit and wait before being quite so forward and will flop on the floor and demand tummy rubs instead. He could be rehomed with older children and would love a family with teenagers that would play with him. Younger children are possible but they would need to be robust! He bonds strongly with people and needs a new home where there is some consistency.

Scott has good basic training and walks well on the lead. He will pull initially while he forgets his manners and is more interested in getting to where he is going. He remembers with a quick reminder and is responsive to treats and praise. He has already learnt to sit and has excellent recall when out with the other dogs. Further training would be beneficial but the basics are there.

Scott is house trained and clean overnight but does need to have garden access quickly after waking up. He will concentrate on playing and chewing his own toys rather than yours and will settle nicely with a bone. One of the major plus points with Scott is that he will chase and nip the hoover so he is the perfect excuse to cut back on housework! He loves being cwtched and has shown no possessive behaviour. He travels well in the car (harnesses or behind a dog guard or it would be on you knee) and loved meeting other people and animals at the vet.

Scott has been left for short periods in his foster home and takes a while to settle after you have gone. He is young and has had several changes in his life recently so his anxiousness is understandable. At the moment we feel he needs people around for most of the time and would therefore not be suitable for full time workers and would possibly struggle with part time hours as well. He is learning to settle in a crate with long lasting treats and time is being built up. It would be beneficial to continue this approach in his new home to prevent this becoming an issue. He will settle down when home so would suit someone that work from home.

In summary, Scott would love an active family where there is someone in for most of the day. He adores long walks and doggy friends to play and would suit a home with older children who would be up for a game or two.

He is a young dog and would benefit from further training and continued socialisation with other dogs.

All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and microchipped prior to rehoming. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family. Hope Rescue rehomes throughout the UK. A Pre-Home Interest Form can be downloaded from www.hoperescue.org.uk and should be returned to dogs@hoperescue.org.uk
