Shadow - 6 year old Staffy x with Hope Rescue
Shadow is a 6 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier and is currently on foster in Caerphilly.
The Shadow Fact File
Dog status: Good
Cat status: Very good
Child status: Good but looking for older dog savvy children.
House training: Very good
Home alone: Could be rehomed to a full time worker.
Basic training: Very good though wanders onlead!
Shadow is a distinguished gent who found himself in the pound looking for someone to give him a chance. He has obviously been loved in the past and has had good basic training before coming into Hope’s care. He knows how to sit, stay, give paw, leave, up, down, over and has perfect recall. He walks without pulling on a lead but has a habit of wandering about and crossing over so will need a little work on the finer etiquette of not tripping up his owner. He can also get excited and jump and mouth whilst walking but is improving daily; its hard to not be excited when life is good.
Shadow has been great with the adults and children he has met and is described as a “loving dog who enjoys closeness and cuddles”. He can however get over excited and forget his manners when playing so maybe older children would be better as they can continue his training and keep play sensible. He is house trained, travels well in the car and none destructive. He is fine being left and would be suitable for full time workers as long as he got a break during the day.
Shadow is in foster with another dog and has settled in fine and could be rehomed with or without canine company. He however was probably not socialised properly when younger and can feel threatened by over exuberant dogs and will stand up for himself if jumped on so a calmer resident dog may be better suited. Shadow is in foster with cats and rabbits and is excellent with both.
In summary Shadow is a fabulous dog who would suit a range of homes from someone retired to a full time worker. He could make a lovely family dog if the children are old enough to be sensible when playing with toys. He could live with cats or small furries and would equally be ok with a resident dog or as an only dog.
All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and microchipped prior to rehoming. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family. Hope Rescue rehomes throughout the UK. A Pre-Home Interest Form can be downloaded from www.hoperescue.org.uk and should be returned to dogs@hoperescue.org.uk
