Bath time. Empty Bath time.

Post by shazney Fri Feb 15 2013, 13:19

Is it really essential to bath dogs, I don't want to as it washes out there natural oils, dog smells don't bother me so I am not happy with bathing Bruno.

I used to bath my late girl but only because she was on a special medicated shampoo from the vets but she hated it, if I dont have to bath Bruno I won't.

Any advice please?

I don't think it's necessary. Just a regular flick with a brush and as you say, the natural oils in the coat will maintain it.

I only bath when Lizzy rolls...fox poo ain't nice. And I am getting Roger used to the bath, just in case he ever does need one.

We haven't bathed Marley since we got her, 2 months, we just wipe her down occasionally with some wipes and it seems to do the trick. Smile

Not important. We gave Loki a bath once not long after we got him, and that was purely to get him used to the water and see what he was like. Since then he's played in tubs of water but not had an actual bath. It's not necessary, just wipe them if they're messy, or a quick rinse of their paws or whatever if they're muddy.

I just rinse mud off Cassie in the shower and she doesn't smell, lots of brushig helps keep her clean

Rocky would only get a bath if he had rolled in something very smelly, otherwise it's just a rinse in warm water as too much bathing/shampooing can strip the coat and skin of the natural oils.

Ah yeah I forgot about the foxes poo, I will get dog wipes then as if bathing is not essential I won't bother.

I brush him everyday though as he's a pup he thinks it's playtime and bites the brush lol

Thanks all.

I used to bath Steff all the time but her skin became dry and flaky and then she started to develop rashes Sad

Now she only bathes after being at the river or beach to get the sand out.. As others have said even mud dries and falls off and she never smells bad Big Grin

I brush Logan daily and it removes most dirt/smell. But I do tend you put him in the shower about once a month as he always get very dirty out where we walk.

If Bruno got really bad I would put him in the shower for a wash down, mud is fine but if he was covered in poop say I would bath him.

Still get him used to being bathed, or maybe just being lifted in and out of the bath, now cus it will be much harder if you need to bath him when hes a year old and much more stubborn, big and strong!
