Bath time! Empty Bath time!

Post by suzypwatkins Sun Jan 04 2015, 14:46

Hi everyone!

Who baths their puppies and if you do what is the shampoo do you use?
Someone recommended baby Johnson's.
I think Mr Winston is having an reaction to something because he has a red blotchy patch on his neck (under head)

Thnx
Sue

We have some Malaseb stuff from the vets and just a dog shampoo from the pet shop. You don't have to bath them often though as they have such short coats Smile

How often is it ideal to bath a puppy? Mine seems to start smelling after about a week so is once a week ok?

I've been advised for a staffy try to keep it to every 3-4 weeks unless they get really dirty from rolling in mid or swimming or something.

Once a week is too much for a puppy I would say. Washing them removes all of the natural oil in their fur which they need to maintain a healthy shiny coat. Bane is washed maybe once every two months and my parents staff...I don't remember the last time he had a bath! But he doesn't smell Smile

Puppys do smell more than older dogs and it should be something he would grow out of but no matter how often you wash him it will still come back Smile

Do you brush him at all? Do you feed a decent quality dog food?

Thanks for the advice. I'll bath her only every couple of months then. I feed her dry food. Greenacres Turkey & rice puppy food and a carrot a day.

Eccles is nearly 6 months and I've never given him a bath. He's definitely a bit whiffy now though so will have to bite the bullet, dread it!
He has a sore paw at the moment. Vet said it might be some mite Staffys are prone to, he is on antibiotics so will have to get an very mild shampoo.
