Bath time Empty Bath time

Post by _Jason_ Sun Jun 30 2013, 16:02

Well broxi's about 12 weeks now and iv been starting to think about needing to bath him from time to time,i think im aware that its best to wait at the very least 12 weeks before putting puppys in baths,i dont think its a big need right now he seems clean in general, but of course hes gonna need one soon and also good for him to get use to baths.

Whats your view on puppys and there first baths and also anyone recommend a good dog shampoo, that will give him a good clean but also one that doesnt make him lose so much of his natural oils which is best kept on him

Thanks Smile

Dogs don't really need baths, i bath the boys about once a year if that.

If they are mucky let them dry and brush it out.

But having said that yes it would be good to get a pup used to having a bath incase they need one, but make sure to use a good quality shampoo, an all natural oatmeal solid ones i recommend

We were told to wash Rocky every month or so, so im not really sure as ive seen on this forum a lot of people only give their dog a bath every once or twice a year, I guess the advice is varied.

We've had Rocky for 2 and half years now and he has only had 2 baths in that time, smelly little bugger Laughing . Seriously it all comes down to whether he needs it or not. Obviously if he gets really mucky and smelly he has one but generally he is a clean dog anyway. This is where a little comman sense comes into things.

I've bathed Cooper twice now - once when we first got him home - the first day and then once a week later - because he likes to go under the shed and get foosty smelling! To dry him we just wrap him in a big towel and do it like cuddles -he dries in no time.

Now i'll do once a month I think unless he gets really mucky. He loves it though, even put the shower on to rinse him, he just leans on the side of the bath on his hind legs - so cute x

Bathed Lola once when we first got her, as she dirtied in the night in the kitchen and was covered. It made her sooooo dry and flakey. Needless to say, hasn't been bathed since. Just rinse her paws off now. Although we do have a puppy dry shampoo that we use from time to time when being brushed.

My pooch only goes in the bath if he gets really muddy and I use baby shampoo, nothing fancy, it does the trick and he has no reaction to it so it works for us. If your pooch gets mucky, try and leave it to dry then brush it out.
