Half and half Empty Half and half

Post by racamoe Thu Feb 14 2013, 19:40

Our pup is being weaned on Fish4dogs and I have bought a bag ready.

I have only ever fed dried food ( with weekly treats of eggs and sardines and Sunday Lunch Rolling Eyes ) , but am thinking about doing a bit of RAW this time round.

Would that work ? Could I say Feed 3/4 dried and 1/4 RAW as a pup, and then as an adult ...one Dried in the morning one RAW meal at night or do people thing that would be a bad idea?

If I did do that , what would the RAW meal consist of...bone and meat ?

My hubby thinks if we were doing both, then the pup will turn her nose up at the dried and wait until the next RAW meal.

Sorry to be a pain >Big Grin<

haha your hubby may have a point, but if your girl are greedy like 2 of mine then she will eat the lot....

My youngest one would choose the raw over the biscuit every time.

Some people will say don't feed the 2 together as they digest at different rates, but i've never had a problem.

I would always feed the two seperately. The main reason is that raw only takes about 4 or 5 hours to digest whereas dry takes from 8-15 hours depending on the quality. If you feed them together you risk upsetting their tum.

If you want to feed both then you can try raw in the morning & dry at about 5pm - that way you can be sure that both are completely digested before the next meal.

If you want to feed raw as a meal as opposed to a treat, then it should contain some bone (ie a couple of chicken wings or a large piece of lambs spine or ribs).

This is what I do 1. because the freezers only big enough for a small amount of meat at a time and 2. because i want to make sure they get all their nutrients and 3. I don't have enough time some mornings to watch them eat a 20 minute meal so we just feed half raw in the evening and half kibble in the morning. They really like their biscuit as much as their meat though so they seem happy and healthy enough Smile
