Weight Training.
Was looking today to try and find a way to burn some energy with chase...
Um not looking for a replacement for walking, just something a little extra, possibly while walking, or on the park. I can walk him for hours and his still got energy to burn!
I was doing some reading and came across someone that attached a weight (in this case a small tire) to his dogs harness and let him pull it for however long...
Anyone got any experience with this kind of exercise with sbt's? or dogs in general really?
Or if not this exercise, any other ideas or experience with other energy burning activities?

Re: Weight Training.
We're going to look at doing this with Molly, but it is ideal to wait until your dog is at least 18 months old before starting anything like this.
I know some people on here use backpacks with water bottles in to help burn energy.
Also, with weight training, you need to get a proper weight pulling harness, else you'll end up injuring your dog with the strain. Weight pulling harnesses distribute the weight better.

Re: Weight Training.
Yer i read that its better to wait till their older with the weight pulling.
I saw sumone using a backpack on their dog before, i laughed at first, but after talking to him he really sold the idea to me lol.
His just a typical 7 month old, Fully of energy and wants to play with everything and everyone lol.

We're going to be buying from them when Molly is old enough to pull.

Re: Weight Training.
I just had a look on youtube, they were using the harnesses similar to the ones on that site.
The dogs seem to love it.

Re: Weight Training.
We've cheated a bit and had Molly pulling a small motorbike tyre with a standard harness, she loves it!
But we don't want to do anything too strenuous until she's a bit more grown up, only 4 more months to go!
The one thing to remember, is don't force your dog into pulling, a lot of people think that if they basically tease their dog and force them to have to come towards them then they'll pull. That's not really fair on the dog, Molly is quite happy to walk next to me whilst she's pulling.
I hope that makes some sense.

Re: Weight Training.
We've only done it in the garden, we're lucky to have a long garden.
We're going to give it a go outside down a quiet country lane. We let her attack rope swings by the river, that usually gets some odd looks, so I can imagine weight pulling will get a few too!

I saw some similar videos of dogs having a good go at rope swings.
Might try taking a rope toy to the park and having a good game of tug of war!

That's an old one of Molly and a rope swing. She loves attaching tree branches now, will literally pull them down from the tree, I'd suggest using a piece of rope you already have, if Chase is anything like The Mog, rope won't last very long, so best to use what you have around and save some money on the process!
