Weight
Guy's anyone help here...
Chloe is overweight she was 20.5kg and that was too big at last vet visit, she's going to vet tonight and I have a feeling she may have gained some weight again...
We need a good food which she will eat properly and keep her weight right... Any recommendations ??
We have tried her on most foods, but she turns her nose up or eats it a few days then gets bored and refuses... We then add things to get her to eat, gravy, sardines etc. This is where our problem lays, we give in everytime
We have tried her with JWB a few varieties, Wainwrights a few varieties, Canine cuisine, and a lot of other brands.. We even tried the cheaper end of the market Superdog, and supreme worker etc... problem with these foods is she eats the meaty chunks and leaves the rest...... Can't win really.
Have just ordered some Pero SBT kibble, and if she has gained will be asking the vets advice too
We need a uniform food, where each bit is the same flavour/colour so she can't cherry pick it

Re: Weight
I would try her on raw as it's seems to be the best way to maintain their weight properly, I've not tried that dry food though so can't comment.

Re: Weight
alot of vets don't like it because there taught by pet food companies that there dry food is best, and no it is not time consuming.

Re: Weight
In the end it's up to you, she might not eat it if she's a fussy eater but it might be worth a try.

Re: Weight
I would try her on raw food, I have just changed Lola after learning from here and Caryll all about it. Lola had gone off her food and was hardly eating. I was against raw as I didn;t know much about it, and like yourself I thought it would be time consuming.
Well I couldn't have been more wrong. find a place to source it from. more than likely the links in the threads Caryll has posted earlier. Get it delivered, put it in the freezer. Feed either frozen or defrost, tada. Simples.
I'm glad I gave it a go and Lola now eats everything that is given her.
You can monitor her weight and give according to whether she loses or gains weight. Take it from me it's so simple if I can do it any one can haha

i would think that weight gain would be more down to overfeeding and not enough exercise.you can feed em the best or the worst dog food but feed too much of either and dont exercise em enough and any dog will get a bit podgy..

Re: Weight
Cant be over feeding cos she hardly eats her food, she is really fussy... Might be the adding gravy etc to her food to encourage eating....
Exercise she has plenty.... Early morning runs with ball play, and evening walk and ball play for about 45 mins
Her ball play is very vigorous running miles each time

Re: Weight
It seems strange that she is overweight when you have been concerned about how much she eats. It also sounds like she does a lot of exercise, maybe her metabolism is just a bit slow! I have heard good things about pero's SBT food, Hill science plan wont be much different in terms of ingredients but will probably cost loads more. The vets make something off it which is why they are trying to push it on you.
Personally I feed raw and like that you can chop and change if you want, say your dogs looking a bit podgy you can cut fat off the meat or give a white meat which has less sats in it. You cant really do that with kibbles you can only give her more or less! However as long as you cut her dried food right back as she starts to lose weight you can always top it up again.
