Re: Dempsey
Yes, there are a few round here, but I think they tend to look like slightly larger than usual staffords. The head's almost always stafford-ish rather than EBT-ish & they tend to be a little lightweight-looking for some reason.
Their temperaments generally aren't all that good either. They have the pig-headedness of both breeds, but with the bully's lack of brain & not quite so good with people.

I think some of them look a bit like kaos, a few people have commented on how bully his eyes and mouth are......hmmmmmm i wonder.

Re: Dempsey
No, Kaos looks all staffie to me! If you see a bully-staffy cross, you'll see what I mean. Although the head's more staffy, because it has inherited the width of the bully as well, it looks kind of weak.
I'm not keen either. I'd prefer to have one or the other.

Re: Dempsey
He's being a bit funny at the moment though. Keeps biting my OH's & son's feet - not hard enough to break the skin, but hard enough to hurt. He also growls while he's doing it.
I think he's going through a dominance stage with OH, because he doesn't do it to me or my daughter - we're the ones who discipline him. He doesn't do it when I'm in the room either. I've told them both that they have to say a loud, deep "NO!" when he does it, but they're both really slow to react & it's over before they actually do anything!
I just hope it isn't going to become a habit!

Re: Dempsey
Strange, but he is at the age where he may be trying to show who's boss. With your experience you'll be fine, just get them to react quicker, no point saying no when he's already done it!

Re: Dempsey
Trouble is, my son is so attached to Dempsey that he won't even tell him off! Dempsey can climb all over him, bite his fingers, toes, whatever & James just sits there saying "Mum, help!" Wimp!
He's a good dog, but he is a challenge. It's taught me a LOT about dominance & how to combat it. It isn't easy, though. Sometimes I wish we had a more submissive dog, but then he looks at me with 'that' look - you all know the one - & I wouldn't have him any other way!

Dempsey is lovely. I'm not at all a fan of ebt's but he's a lovely looking boy

Re: Dempsey
Im not a fan of EBT's but I think Dempsey is an absolute cracker. You can see that the RAW diet is doing him good he looks in great shape.
Great Pics Caryll
Blue used to do that feet thing. But only to kids. Reason was cos they move their feet quicker than adults and the quick feet brings out the prey drive and makes them go for them. Same didn't bite hard hard but mainky the quick movement would scare the kids a bit. He only did it for about a month. Stopped doing it now, but you can see it still bugs him and he wants to pounce

Miracle!
Out with Dempsey for his walk this morning & my dog radar went wrong, I missed a young GSD off lead a few yards away. Dempsey saw it & started to trot towards it with every intention of ignoring me.
BUT I yelled "Stay!" & he DID!!!

maybe the start of Dempsey turning the corner Caryll, he's getting toward 2 and might chill alittle, good work Dempsey keep it up

Re: Dempsey
He's been a little hyper today, don't know why. Just one of those things.
I was relieved Shontelle, cause although he isn't altogether agressive, he can turn very quickly if another dog looks at him the wrong way!

Dempsey's been invited to compete in the Trophy Show of the East Anglian Bull Terrier Club in February!
I wasn't going to enter, but I think I will now.

Re: Dempsey
They have annual trophies, like best coloured dog or bitch, best mover, best white etc. Every year they choose a certain amount of dogs to compete for them. I don't know what the criteria are (is?) but they've invited Dempsey. He'll be eligible to compete for best coloured dog, best mover, best under-two-year-old. Don't know the others, but there may be some.
He won't win anything, but it's just nice to be invited.

Re: Dempsey
He's gorgeousCaryll, I think he'd stand a good chance of winning something. I don't know much about ebt's, but from what I've read and seen of them, he looks like a very good example of the breed.

Re: Dempsey
Wow what a good boy for not getting cranky with the GSD and listening to his mummy.. that must be stressful for you walking with the potential Despsey has.
How old was he when you got him? he looks big in the photos.
will you compete in the event?.. will be a challenge for Demps and the other dogs lol

Re: Dempsey
He was 7 weeks old when we got him & I could lift him with one hand! I can't lift him at all, now! He's 21" to the shoulder, about 26 kilos & has a 32" chest. He's a little heavy for my liking, but until I stop showing him, I'll keep a little weight on him - they like it in the show ring. Adter the show in February (I probably will enter) I'll probably retire him from the show ring. He isn't good enough to win at the big shows & he was never bought for that anyway.
Here's a pic in the East Anglian Bull Terrier Club News bulletin of him winning his class last summer...........
The judge was Mr David Hall of Cwmdulais Bull Terriers (Wales), a well-known & respected judge. His opinion of Dempsey was as follows:
"Good sized red & white. Strong head, gentle profile, mouth correct, straight front, good topline & quarters. Moved close behind"

Re: Dempsey
Dempsey is now 22" tall & weighs 31 kilos (nearly 5 stone!). Now I'm not showing him any more I'm going to get a bit of weight off him (he isn't fat by any means, but I'd like to see him a bit fitter!) and get him down to about 29 or 30 kilos. I doubt he'll grow any more now, he's 2 years old in April.

Re: Dempsey
lol! Dempsey climbs up my oh & drapes himself around his shoulders! Then he starts to try and eat his ears!

Re: Dempsey
He's getting really heavy now. He's been on a diet for about 2 weeks as I felt he needed to lose a couple of kilos. I thought he was starting to look quite slim so I weighed him - he's still 30 kilos!
The real problem I have now with his general body shape is his belly. He has a nice waist now & I can feel his ribs etc, but I just can't get rid of his belly! I've tried long walks, chasing his boomer ball, running up & down hills. Nothing works. I suppose he's just always going to have a beer belly.
I wonder if it has anything to do with the stomach operation he had?

What a glutton for punishment!
I don't know what prices are like there, but here a pedigree BT pup from health tested parents will set you back £900!
Guest- Guest
Re: Dempsey
£900 is like 200,000 dollars I think.
Oli and Lola cost me 4000 dollars for the both. I don't think i can afford another right now but I would love to have one. Maybe in 15 years.
