Pit Bull
Met a guy tonight on our walk and he was making a fuss of Bacchus. I told him to be careful in case Bacchus jumped up and made a mess of his ( fetching ) grey track suit. He said " it's ok I've got one" "What a staffy?"
" No a pit bull " If he didn't have a boxer's nose and twice my size, I would have told him he was either a liar or an idiot. But decided discretion was the better part of valour and said our goodbyes and finished our walk.
What an a##e.

Re: Pit Bull
Lol at some people.
I had a group of young lads who were standing drinking say to me once, "is that a pitbull?"
I just replied "no fella, it's a wee Labrador"

When people ask 'is you dog alright?, I always reply with no, she is a little depressed at the moment, and then see how long I can keep talking about it

LOL!
I've done that too. "Is your dog alright?",
"no to be honest he's a bit tired"

Re: Pit Bull
Not trying to stir anything up, but why did you get upset? Just the way he said it?
Many may disagree with me here, but IMO Pitbulls and Staffy's only differ in size. Temperment and personality seem identical to me.
Me personally, I'm a fan of both (Even though a pitbull is not really a breed)

Re: Pit Bull
I think the ignorance of assuming it was a pitbull, which I don't think anyone really has in England

Re: Pit Bull
Plus in this country the word pitbull has became more of a derogatory slur for "dangerous dog" than a breed.
Even though it's far from the truth.

Re: Pit Bull
Bit of a misunderstanding. He wasn't suggesting that Bacchus was a pit. He was just saying he had a dog and it was a pit bull. I've no reason to dislike pits I've never met one. I just thought he was an idiot on the grounds that he would tell people he had a banned breed and risk having the dog taken from him. I don't think for one moment he had a pit bull anyway. He was more likely just one of those a##eholes with a staffy cross and thought it would impress people to say he had a pit.

Re: Pit Bull
Haha i once got asked if my old johnsons american bull dog was a pit.
She was white and red coloured, was lanky legged and slim :s
Just shows how much people know around near me.
Admitting to having a banned breed to a total stranger, that dude must have been clever

Re: Pit Bull
I have to say im a huge fan of pit bulls, me and my hubby used to live in cyprus and over there they are the main breed of dog and are very much cherished family dogs (apart from the ones that are raised as guard dogs...you def dont go near them ) anyhow we had one and he was soft as old boots even used to let a local cat eat from his food bowl!! The only time he turned aggressive was when a loose pit was charging towards our then 8 year old and he protected her without a doubt!! Trouble is over here they have been given a bad name like our beloved staffies 'Blame the deed not the breed'!! x

Re: Pit Bull
Its something that the uneducated like to think they have. Defra release guidlines and byb try and match the stats....pits are wonderfull dogs and in reality the commonest thing they share wth staffs is love of humans. Why we let them down all the time beggers beleif. Without a doubt there are very few pits in this country now..
