"You can tell it's a Pit Bull..."
"Because of the wrinkles on the sides of his eyes."
Someone actually said that about Saxon to the OH on a walk today. Nice try, guy... Close, but no cigar.
OH corrected the guy, but I'm sure it went in one ear and out the other. I get wrinkles next to my eyes when I smile, does that mean I'm a Pit Bull, too?

So common. People here hardly ever believe me when I tell them sbt is a different breed. I just smile, knowing they are ignorant.

You should print this out and ask them to find the Pit http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html
I got it second time, mistakenly picked the Boerboel first choice
wonder how many of these "experts" would get it right

Some people just don't have any cranial capacity. Some man thought Romeo was a Boxer the other day-a Boxer!
Still can't get over that I've had pitbull, I've had presa canario, I've had mastiff, I've had cane corso-i've had bulldog a lot too. I would understand if he was taller but he's such a midge.
The saddest thing about the man calling him a presa was that he owned his own staffy.
It's probably because he's red and people (round here at least) have only seen brindle and blue staffies. I know people think of red as a 'pitbull' colour.

I guess im lucky lexi is so ridiculously small, noone has ever said she was a pitbull apart from a little 10 year old "hard lad" kid that was screaming across the street "do you fight your pitbull" i called back "yeah, do you want to have a tumble with her? Im happy if you are!"

I get asked if/told that Saxon is a Pit Bull ALL THE TIME! No one around here knew what a Stafford was till Saxon came 'round. I always respond with something like, "No, he's actually a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Which is the smaller British cousin of the APBT/AmStaff. So he's actually full grown at the moment."
The inexplicable one I have gotten 5 different times is Beagle or Beagle mix... Really people?? What about this:

People confuse Suki for a Boxer all the time. Amstaffs/Pitbulls are very uncommon over here

At least where you live Pitbulls aren't banned. In the UK your dog getting accused of being a pitbull can be fatal.get asked if/told that Saxon is a Pit Bull ALL THE TIME! Actually in that picture he does look quite a lot like a Beagle.

Re: "You can tell it's a Pit Bull..."
I am very lucky to live in a state where BSL is illegal. Every city/county in the US that DOES have a Pit Bull ban, counts Staffords as Pit Bulls and they are also banned. So being a Stafford would already be fatal if we lived in Denver or Miami/Dade or somewhere else with BSL in the US.shakespearesdog wrote:At least where you live Pitbulls aren't banned. And, yeah, he's super Beagle-y:
Man, I really want to get a picture of Saxon next to a beagle to show the next person that calls him a beagle.

I too am glad I live where there is no BSL. However, I always find it interesting that home owner's insurance lumps the two breeds together as well. Totally dumb in my opinion. I think next time someone accuses Saxon of being a Pit you should look at them with a serious face and tell them he is a beagle. Just for kicks and giggles.

Re: "You can tell it's a Pit Bull..."
Reading with interest as we are getting our Staffy puppy in 3 weeks and have had lots of pit bull remarks already...Wanted to say, though, that our homeowner's insurance did not have an issue with Staffords. "Pit bulls" when I really pressed them for specifics were AmStaffs and APBTs. Said they base their list on claim history...guess not a lot of claims with Staffies. Which is good but probably also because I don't think they're as common here in the US.

Staffords aren't all that common in the US, so that's probably why. Interesting, though, I've never heard of an insurance company in the US accepting a Stafford, but not Pit Bulls.micheled wrote:Reading with interest as we are getting our Staffy puppy in 3 weeks and have had lots of pit bull remarks already...Wanted to say, though, that our homeowner's insurance did not have an issue with Staffords. Since deciding to get our staff we've had things thrown at us like" those dogs have to be kept muzzled all the time because they're so dangerous" and " are they not just pit bulls?" Unfortunately its just public opinion.
Took that test and got it 2nd go also. Picked the ca de bou first.
