licking question
Hello,
I am new to this site, and I have had my Staffy cross since November, she is a 5 year old rescue girl.
She is really well behaved and loves people. My question is, that when my partner and I raise voices towards each other, she always jumps up to me and starts licking me.
I am guessing this is maybe a stress behaviour but I don't know why she always does this to me and not my boyfriend, although saying that, she seems very fussy and wags her tail..... unfortunately I can't see what type of wag this is because she has had her tail amputated!
Would anybody have any ideas?
Thanks
S

Re: licking question
My Lizzy does something similar. I think they pick up on our tensions and try to step in to help. Lizzy will jump up and lick if someone is crying or shouting. She also barks if people dance...I'm fairly certain it's a combination of fear and attempting to defuse the situation in most cases.
All I can say, is at least it's good to have a reliable measure of when you might be getting a bit stressed

Re: licking question
Apparently dogs lick each other to calm each other down. The jumping is just to do with excitement/confusion.

Re: licking question
This doesn't really answer your question but I got my Daisy from a rescue last year too and she loves licking.....to the point where she will lift your trouser leg up to get to the skin above your sock or pin your arm to the sofa!! She has done this ever since I got her and does it to everyone not just me. I don't really mind the licking and she's always wagging her tail when she does it so seems to enjoy it!!Only problem is it sometimes it progresses to play biting if she gets over excited so I'm working on stopping that!

Re: licking question
The licking is a calming signal to u. Some dogs when told off will lick their nose or yawn, all calming signals. (and stress signals)
When my boy knows he's in the wrong he will jump up licking me like a maniac ! (guilty concious !)

Re: licking question
2 of my dogs ignore us, the other one (Tali) freaks out and climbs on your lap, huffs and puffs, licks you and generally stresses out. I used to try and comfort her but it just makes her much worse. Now I Ignore her til she calms down or tell her to go and chill out. She hates negative energy!
