Took Cassie for her walk this morning. She was running about like a daft one in the snow Big Grin , all of a sudden she went head over heels with a yelp, she had tripped down a rabbit hole at full speed, she is ok no damage done as far as walking goes (my heart failure don't count) and she got up and carried on shoveling snow with her nose Love Struck , she did this last week when there was no snow and that got me thinking, how easy it would be for her skinny legs to get damaged so should i take her somewhere else just in case, she would be gutted because it is only 1 of 2 walks she gets off her lead and she can run free

I always err on the side of caution so I would go somewhere else. Imagine if she were hurt and you couldn't walk her for 6 weeks or more.

Glad she isn't hurt. I know what you mean about the skinny legs, my 2 love running in the rock pools on the beach but I worry about the legs so I keep them away now. On the other hand dogs have been running around rabbit holes for years Big Grin

sounds silly, but is there away that you can take a re route? or is this place full of the rabbit holes? as on tykes day time walk we go to place over the road that is beautiful but when you get past the field and to the first stretch of track it runs at the side of a rail way track so i make sure he is kept on the lead or at at the side of me as there are breaks in the fence. just an idea

I'd always worry about things like that because one of the dogs I had ended up banging her head from a fall she had, and...well, it didn't end very happily. Not trying to scare you or anything, just saying that, personally, I'd be paranoid about Loki hurting himself and take him somewhere else even though he's very resilient. It's a beautiful place though Smile don't see any solution, unfortunately. Not like you can scope out all the rabbit holes and then avoid them all Laughing

It is such a beautiful descolate place 15 mins walk from home it would be a shame not to go there anymore, but as Claire said they have been chasing rabbits forever so i think i should use that thought instead of negative i think, because the alternative would be only very occasionally letting Cassie of lead because of muppets not controlling their dogs and i feel that would punish her for my paranoia

Where we walk there are loads of rabbits holes too, we just keep Rocky on the lead when we are near them. Thankfully we do have somewhere rabbit hole free where he can have a good run free.

I think you are right Dave to keep her away from the holes when I thought about it. If Lily hurt herself I could never carry her to safety quickly. You do have to be careful, my sister's Labradoodle was playing with another dog, slipped on the mud and smacked his head off a dry stone wall (you could hear his head hit the wall), he hurt his mouth and foot and ended up at the Vet's. Better to be safe than sorry! Big Grin
