We're Moving!
I'm sick of Finland. i have been for the past 2 years. So i have cecided to pack me and Romeo up and move us to AUSTRALIA, my home country since i am still a citizen and i dont need anything but my passport to go.
However... Romeo is a different story.
If anyone knows anything about exporting dogs to Australia... please let me know, we can use all the help we can get

Re: We're Moving!
Wow big decision Taryn, anything in particular making you move ??
Sorry dont have an experience of taking dogs abroad, I'm sure someone will be able to help though.

Re: We're Moving!
yeah i have been reading the DAFF. Its all rather complicated and long.
i've just had enough. life isnt working out here for me, not socially, not at work... i hate the weather.
my grandmother has cancer in australia and things are just... bad here... so... i'm going home and i'm taking my romeo with me

Re: We're Moving!
I think the best thing you can do i phone the australian boarder agency. its going ot be very costly probably and he will need quarantine

Re: We're Moving!
yeah for sure. finland is a class 4 country. we have rabies, but ts highly controlled. so he will have a 30 day stay in a center in australia my poor baby
the good news is that Romeo has every VAC required, he is done yearly, he is microchipped and has a passport. standard things when you get a dog with papers here in finland.
my local vet game me a number to call about the blood work and i'm looking into pet cargo companies here in finland. the faster i sort this out the better since his blood work has to be done so many months after the needle and is only valid so many months after the tests.

Good luck with it Taryn, 30 days in quarantine isn't too bad. Would you be able to see him every day ?

Re: We're Moving!
i should take more photos of romeo in the snow, since this will be ther last year he sees it
Re: We're Moving!
I don't know about OZ but when I took my English Bulldog to Japan I had to get a FAVN test to measure the amount of rabies vaccine in her system. The quarentine period lasted 180 days past the day of the results. Since she was all clear I got to take her home from the airport.
Since both countries are islands the rules might be similar.

Re: We're Moving!
Sorry i don't know anything about this stuff but with Kathy asking if you can visit Romeo everyday, I was wondering when they are in quarantine do they feed him the same diet how you would feed him? if you feed raw do they feed him raw and stick to your regime? But just focus on how much happier you both shall be, >< >< to your grandmother and a speedy recovery

Re: We're Moving!
it is very close to the rules in australia. even if romeo gets the all clear, i think he will need to be kept for 30days still
its all this Official Government Veterinarian, Government Approved Veterinarian and a Government Approved Laboratory in the DAFF approved country of export that messes with my head.
I have contacted an agency... hopefully they can help me
i'm only allowed to see him on tuesdays and thursdays for 30mins at a time! and i have to suply his food or they feed him a ' high quality commercial dog food' what ever the hell that is!

Re: We're Moving!
I used an agency once as well when I moved to Korea. Sometimes it's easier to call the airport customs agency direct and ask them. Either way it's scary to fly with a pet. I stressed out both times and was out of the airport within about 2 hours of landing each time.

Re: We're Moving!
I'm so glad to hear that Romeo is recovering well from his major surgery - that's a great relief.
I'm also sorry to hear that life in Finland has not worked out well for you, and can quite understand that you want to return to your homeland, especially as your Grandma is not well.
I know nothing about exporting/importing dogs I'm afraid so can't help you there, but there seems to be a lot of information available from our members and online.
I can only send you all my best wishes in your venture >< >< ><
Do keep in touch.

my guess is no. It will be quick as possible foods and bought in bulk from a cheapo van.

Re: We're Moving!
i cant even collect romeo. a customs officer will pick him up, take him to the center and then i'm not allowed to see him for a week! they say this is to allow him to settle in.
wait until hey realise romeo gets seperation anxiety... no ones going to doing much settleing there

Re: We're Moving!
Oh Taryn, I do feel for you, it's such a dilemma.
At least 30 days quarantine is better than 6 months quarantine which I believe is the time period for dogs coming into the UK (unless things have moved on since I learned that).
Romeo won't forget you in that relatively short space of time, although you'll miss him like mad and the restrictions imposed on visiting, saying "cheerio for now" etc seem unnecessarily harsh. If Romeo was born and raised in Finland he may find Australia a bit of climate shock though, so be prepared for that.
But ultimately, if you're happier in australia, then Romeo will be too.
I wish you every good luck in your move - do keep in touch. ><

I don't know but this company may be able to help
http://form.petrelocation.com/?type=intl
They may at least be able to advise you
If he comes to the "concentration camp" in Sydney it is not far from me but you are right they don't look very pleasant they look like our jails

Re: We're Moving!
i havnt actually left yet, and we might not, but they quoted me $2800 AUD, that included crate which they could deliver to your house a few weeks before to get your dog used to staying in it. They also offered to pick my dog up and if we are not in the same flight my dog could stay with them until my dogs flight!
They were incredible helpful, so it's worth at least calling them for a quote. There was no pressure at all when I spoke to them, just really helpful
They also know which airlines are best to use since some discriminate a bit against staffys.
