I'm moving soon
This is my first time owning a Staffordshire terrier, and me and my husband are moving soon. We would like to know what states allow these dogs into the state that we are going to. Please help!

Re: I'm moving soon
Hi,
Your question is a good one, but it really depends on where you're going. I believe that about a dozen states have some kind of breed-specific legislation which limits whether you can own a pit bull (many places group AmStaffs and Staffies with pit bulls)---but it seems always limited to specific cities and counties rather than a statewide measure. I live in Maryland and pit bulls, American Staffordshire Terriers, and Staffies aren't permitted a few counties over. Do you know what area you'll be moving to?
Your dog is lovely

Hi and welcome from us and Suki. You could always try calling the clerk of court or police department of the city you are moving to.

I would ckeck out Pit Bull Rescue Central's BSL page: http://www.understand-a-bull.com/BSL/Locations/USLocations.htm They have great information about which States, Counties and Cities have BSL and what that BSL entails. There are even some areas in Louisiana with BSL. Good luck on the move!

i will be moving to Georgia or California. One of the two. I know that Colorado don't allow them into there state but I know you have to have some kinda a permit to let them in I'm not sure. I would like to know for sure about it.

Re: I'm moving soon
The only state which has state-wide Breed Specific Legislation in the USA is Ohio. The dogs are allowed, but are subject to restrictions, and the owners must obtain a hefty personal liability insurance policy in order to keep them. Here is a searchable site with known BSL laws in the USA: http://www.understand-a-bull.com/BSL/Loc… As far as Canada, I know Ontario has a blanket ban on "pit bull type" dogs which includes APBTs, Staffys, Am Staffs, and any similar dog (including mixes). I don't think any other provinces have province-wide bans, but there are some areas with local laws that might prohibit or restrict. A database of BSL laws in Canada can be found here: http://www.dlcc.ca/laws.html
Add: I have never seen a breed ban in the USA that didn't include Staffordshire Bull Terriers along with the APBT and Am Staffs. The Ohio ban includes all three, plus several other breeds and mixes thereof. it is the breed ban in the UK that does not include Staffordshire Bull Terriers, not US bans.
Hope this helps.

Re: I'm moving soon
I live in CA and not too many places here with BSL yet. Some are working on it though. Just check online whichever city and county. Each sherrifs dept has that information.

Re: I'm moving soon
Come to Maine, lol! BSL is illegal in Maine! Though it can be hard to find an apartment because individual apartment owners do sometimes discriminate based on breed.
