what to feed my dog
Hi
I'm new here and looking for help my dog who is not a full staffy ( i hope that is ok) crossed with a bullmastiff, Well she has been farting a lot recently every time she moves she lets one rip and the smell is really awful, she's 7 yrs old and we have been feeding her either butchers tripe, bakers dry food or pedigree chum over the years and she hasn't had any problems she also would get scraps from the dinner table and the odd cup of tea,
The vet recommended iams or james wellbeloved, wee went for the iams, with that and no more scraps from the table the smell and amount of passed gas dramatically decreased but today when i awoke there was a giant poo on the living room floor and it was nearly liquid she must have had bad diarrhea as she usually sleeps through the night no problem.
I was hoping someone could help is it just her system adjusting to the iams or should i change to a different dogfood??? She has only been on the iams for about a week.
thanks

Re: what to feed my dog
Hi, if you are changing over to one food from another this should be done gradually to avoid any upset tummies, sounds like you have already been there though.

Re: what to feed my dog
Hi & welcome to the forum.
Oh dear. Well, the foods you've mentioned are all known to give problems - none of them are very good, and I'd advise changing them. I wonder, though, why it's all of a sudden that your dog can't tolerate them.
Did you change over straight away, or did you gradually change?

Re: what to feed my dog
Hi everyone thanks for the replies.
Ye we didn't really change foods straight away in the past but we changed right away from the bakers to the iams and it's been iams everyday since then for about a week and nothing else except treats and a denta stix every night.
I think maybe she just had too much last night as it wasn't me that fed her, but that's the thing why has she suddenly developed an irritation to the bakers or pedigree chum i have no idea i'm guessing age but she's only 7.

Re: what to feed my dog
Any sudden change to diet (even if it's from a bad food to a good one) is likely to cause problems, especially in an older dog. Go back to what you were feeding & gradually change over - about a week or so should do it!

Re: what to feed my dog
Don't forget to come back and keep up updated on how she gets on with her new diet.
Also what are them black biscuits you can get? They are meant to be good at reducing smelly wind
