On Heat
I have only had my rescue about 7 weeks, and she has just come in to season. She is 7 months old.
To me she seems not right, abit down, and not her usual self.
How long does her being in season last for? Does she require doggy chocolate & tlc, like humans do?
Thanks x

Re: On Heat
Usually about 4 weeks with spotting 2/3 of those. Yes they can be a little mopey. I swore by these when Moo was in season, just for when she was indoors to protect the funiture and carpets Just be very aware of male dogs and keep her on lead at all times

Re: On Heat
As Janey says, about 3-4 weeks, but it's the 2nd half of the season you need to be really careful with. Dogs will be interested in her from day one, but she won't be interested in them. BUT. After about 10 days or so she will be interested & will become a complete tart!

Re: On Heat
4 weeks? blooming heck, didnt realise it was that long.
I fully intend to keep her away from other dogs, theres enough of these poor pooches without homes without adding to them.
I shall get her spayed once she is all done & dusted this time round.
Thanks x

Re: On Heat
Their first season can often leave them feeling a bit down & confused.
Most seasons only last for about 21 days, that's just an average! Some even have split seasons which last for about 10 days, stop, and then come back a month or so later.
She'll be ok to walk on lead for the first 10 days (carry a pet corrector spray with you just in case), but after that if you walk her make sure it's at the least busy times (dog-wise) and without fail on the lead - because she will want to mate & will run off if she sees another dog!

I do usually let her off lead, but is usually very quiet when i walk her, but i dont think i will risk it for awhile.
