On heat!
So my beautiful little girl is growing up at 6 and a half months.
Woke up to hear her wining a little bit in her crate this morning which is very unusual and she has definately come into season poor little mite.
Problems which I need advice upon are as follows:
Are the dog pants you can buy from pets at home any good?
Secondly our castrated spaniel is showing rather a keen interest in her and has attempted to mount her!! So at present we are seperating the two of them. Any ideas to help on this?
Thirdly, our vets have said that it is unwise to allow any female to have a season unless you intend to breed from them at the risk of mamary cancers increases alot. I wanted to let her have a heat but my partner was not so keen, no choices now! But could someone please reassure me that I have made the right decision in allowing her to have a season?
Thank you for any help!

Re: On heat!
It's OK to let her have one season, when she is spayed she will be that bit more mature. As you say you haven't been given a choice now anyway.
I have heard members here saying about using the pants so they must be OK, sorry I have a boy so cannot give any recommendations really.

Re: On heat!
We used the pants. They are good. We just used cheap sanitary towels in them rather than buying dog disposable pads as it worked out cheaper.
The only pain is when they go for a wee they need taking off and putting back on again. We bought sky a bag of doggy chocolates and only used them for when she let us put the pants on so we never had problems rying to get them back on again.

We don't have pets at home here, but I bought 2 denim diapers from Petco. They velcro on just like a baby's diaper (get two, you will have one in the wash). Don't buy the panty liners at the pet store, it's cheaper to buy people ones at the drugstore.
Good luck with your boy...even the neutered males on our street found our house fascinating during Callie's heat. The intact schnauzer across the street actually howled.
You will find a variety of opinions here on neutering versus not. We couldn't as our breeder wants to show Callie, or I'd have preferred to, and we plan to once she finishes with that. But many knowledgeable people don't neuter at all, so you should feel comfortable that you aren't doing Molly any harm.

Re: On heat!
So the new pants are on Moll and a new toy for both dogs.
Watsons desire for her seems to have been forgotten! Hurrah
Do you think that when they are in season they get the equivilent of period pains?

Re: On heat!
Poor Molly - 6 & 1/2 months seems quite young for a first season, but I've only had Dobermann bitches before which are bigger than Staffies of course and therefore I suppose mature later.
I'm glad the knickers are working - just wish they were available when I had my Dobes.
I've never known a bitch to have period pains personally but they DID "mark" considerably more (spots of wee here, there, everywhere) - obviously hoping to attract a "husband".
I always found my bitchs' seasons quite stressful and hard work, so wish you strength over the following 3 weeks or so

Poor little Moll.
She's wanting to lick our faces and hands sooooo much!! Icky really when you consider where she's been licking!
We had her out today on the green and I was her monitor, we sped off when the local entire (rather nasty) dachshund appeared! Its only a 6 month old but has growled since they got it at 14 weeks.

Mmmm yes, you must be constantly washing
Sounds like the dachshund is to be avoided. What a shame he has that sort of personality. Let's hope his owner has access to a website as good as this one.
Big kiss to Moll.
