Question for Caryll
Caryll, what do you think of miniature Bull Terriers are they ok health wise due to breeding them smaller? Thanks

Re: Question for Caryll
Well, sort of.
Breeding them smaller hasn't affected their general health, but they do have eye problems - PLL (Primary Lens Luxation) which, in affected dogs leads to gradual blindness & great pain.
Good breeders will only breed from 2 'clear' dogs, or 1 clear & one carrier (therefore, at worst, producing carrier pups, but not pups that will go blind). NO GOOD BREEDER WILL KNOWINGLY BREED FROM AN AFFECTED DOG. But you would need to see proof of the DNA tests to confirm that both parents were clear, or if one of them is a carrier, the pup should be tested before it is sold to confirm whether it's clear or a carrier.
They also, like the standards, can inherit heart & kidney problems & any breeding dogs should be tested for those in advance & only clear dogs bred from.
If all health tests are carried out (like with the stafford!) they are a very robust & lively breed!

A freind of mine has two miniture EBT's ... one very similar in colour and markings to Dempsey, and the other a dark brindle, and his are around the size of a standard female staffy or a little bigger ... and boy are they full of life

Re: Question for Caryll
They do seem to have much more energy than most other breeds - even staffords!
They're anything from 12" to the shoulder right up to 21", although the standard says they shouldn't exceed 14".
Trouble is, they did a fair bit of interbreeding with the Standard Bull Terrier to try & tackle the PLL problem - every pup from one of these matings has to be registered as a Mini Bull no matter what size they are.
