Hi Everyone.. Im new to this and need some help/advice
I'm getting to the end of my tether with my 2 Year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier Roxy!! I've had her since she was 11 weeks old and she has been toilet trained successfully. We have recently gone through some changes which i think have effected Roxy!! I was previously in a relationship were Roxy was in control and he basically treat her like his baby!! We have been separated now for 4 months and Roxy is now sleeping in the kitchen instead of in bed with me which she seems to adapted to well... The problem i have with Roxy now is house training. She has gone from being toilet trained to weeing and pooing in the night and when she is left on her own... She can be left for 10 mins and i still come back to it!! I have tried going back to square 1 and put newspaper down, make sure she goes for wee wees before bed and before go out but its like she saves some just so she can mess when shes alone. I have never hit or shouted when she has messed... I'm getting to the end of my tether with and really need some advice.

She's suffering from anxiety. You will need to go right back to toilet training basics. Take her into the garden every hour plus after every sleep, feed & play. Praise when she goes outside, ignore accidents. She will pick it up again with patience & perseverance.
P.S. Welcome to the forum!

Re: Hi Everyone.. Im new to this and need some help/advice
With it being this time of year in the week she gets anywhere from 45mins upto 1 hour walk... At weekends she gets alot longer. Roxy is confined to the kitchen when i go out and i put paper down... At night she can be worse but i think thats because she goes to bed in the kitchen now and not with me!! my kitchen is begining to smell now i bought the odour neutraliser from pets at home which i thought would help!! it doesn't do anything to help!!

Can I ask why she now sleeps in the kitchen instead of with you? If she's used to sleeping in your bedroom, that will be another change which could be causing anxiety.

Hi Roxy's mum and welcome to this forum.
I'm so sorry to hear about the breakdown in your relationship (s**t happens as I know myself) and it sounds as if Roxy is too, especially as she now has to sleep in the kitchen. If she was used to sleeping with you before the break-up, can she not continue to do so? Then it would be just one major change instead of two.
Yes go back to basics with toilet training but I can't help but think that the toilet problems are a symptom of her distress - she's missing your ex and now she has to sleep in the kitchen.
I know I'm soppy as a sack about these things, but personally I wouldn't give her too many changes at once. If she has been used to sleeping at nights with you, it will be HUGE change for her to have to sleep in the kitchen. ONE change at a time.

Re: Hi Everyone.. Im new to this and need some help/advice
Hi,
I had a similar situation to yours (without the ex to rid of I add), in that in my old flat Ella used to sleep in my bedroom with me most nights. When I relocated I decided to break the habit while she was still relatively young, and she too went from being fully toilet trained to going in the night. Coupled with this I listened to her crying all night for the first couple of nights, and I have to admit I caved in a couple of times and brought her in with me at night again.
I put it down to the stress of a sudden move (for both of us) and too many changes for a young dog to adapt to. Once she was more settled and had stopped toileting indoors, I gradually reduced the times she was coming into my bedroom at night. Don't get me wrong, she'd jump at the chance again if I offered (someone's got to) but she now sleeps in the kitchen and the only time she disturbs me is if she hears a rowdy lot coming back from the pub.
It's difficult, but it can and does all come good in time

Hi welcome. Can't help with the toilet training more than is already being told. It does sound like anxiety though as dogs will empty their bowels if they are anxious.

We had this problem with 1 of our Boxers. He hated being alone, if we went out we would be back to find lino, door casings, oven gloves etc... chewed to shreds and a mess you wouldn't believe from just 1 animal's bum. We learned to save our home we had to invest in a crate/cage and he still continued to mess in it but it was easier to clean plus he couldn't harm himself chewing. I think when they get so used to being around people (sleeping in bedroom) they rebel. Is it so bad to have dog sleep in your room?
