socialization question
Hey all,
The new puppy comes home on Friday i am so excited. Here is the thing, we also have a mini dach, she is an absolute sweetheart, about 3 months old. She has had all of her shots etc. Our new staffy will have had her first round of shots. im a bit weary of introducing them on day one, as i dont want to stress our new girl out, lucy the mini dach can be a bit excited at times. we know there should be no walks beyond the yard until she gets all of the shots witch according to my vet have to be spaced in 4 week intervals. will it be safe to have marley around lucy if lucy has had all her shots? also we have managed to train the mini dach with no pads or newspaper and i want to do the same with marley, that involves taking her to the yard to the "poop tree", would that be okay? she would be 10 weeks when we colect her on friday. thanks.

Re: socialization question
I don't see any problem with that.
Do take care, though, with rough play - a staff could end up hurting a mini dach's back.

Thanks, we are looking forward to the too ladies having a great life together. lucy the mini dach thinks she is a great dane, she plays hard lol. but we will be sure to supervise and encourage gentle play.

most definately lol, from the food to toys. the leash and collar are hanging at the door already. My next big question is going to be about introduction to a cat who is not the friendliest feline, should that be a new thread?
Re: socialization question
I think you will find the staff plays a lot rougher so you will need to keep a close eye on them. The staff will probably outgrow the dach very fast so i would even make plans to ensure they are not left alone together until the "rough n tumble" stage is over and the pup has learned good inhibition. But what you have said so far all sounds good! Good luck, can't wait for pics

thx janey, im looking forward to it.
Does anyone have any tips for the ride home? id rather it be held than be in a box or crate, i know i suffer from motion sickness n id die if i couldnt see what was going on around me.
Re: socialization question
Have her on your lap (as long as your not the driver!)

There will definitely be pics lol. My wife has postponed the Christmas cards, she said she doesn't care how late they are, she wants the new addition in them lol
Re: socialization question
i remember when i took cass for his first shots, the vet said he could interact with other dogs quite early on, assuming the dog in question had had all it's injections. so you should be ok. must admit i'd love another dog to give cass a play mate all the time but i think it'd be a bit much to take on. good luck!

Re: socialization question
I bought a travel crate for my pup and put him in it for the ride home and I sat next to him - the sooner he/she gets used to car journeys the way they will be inthe future then the better. and Puppy SBT will be fine around your other dog as long as the other dog has had its shots, itss mainly to protect pups from dogs who have not had shots or thiier mess when walking so keep pup away from dogs ur not sure about and keep pup inside untill way after its shots.im sure Ur new pup will love your current dog SBT just will love anything in its pack - good luck
