House training query Empty House training query

Ok,
So Luna is doing well and seems keen to please ...

She already knows when she’s let out into the garden to go to the loo and she’ll be rewarded with a treat. But for this to happen I am instigating taking/calling her outside (after nap/play/food etc). She’s only had 2 accidents where i’ve not been on the ball and seen the signs she wanted to go.

The question is how do I now get her to wait and voice that she needs to go ... (whine/bark/walk to door)?
I’m not sure how to tackle the next step.

... Just to add that over night she is crated and has a toilet area, however she will whine to be let out before using that as a last resort f I don't get to her in time or sleep through Blushing
But during the day it's a whole new ball game...

All advice appreciated Big Grin

some dogs wont make any sound when needing the loo. Our dog just sits in front of us and looks at us. It just takes time to know the signs. As she gets older she may do the same with or without barking whining etc. Just keep asking her either wee wee or we say do you want to go out? They learn to associate the words with going out to pee etc Smile

Bacchus is 5 months now but apart from the usual, after a nap, after food, after play, we still watch for signs that he needs to go. He normally goes to the door but doesn't always "ask". We have had very few accidents but he is still a puppy and as such when he needs to go he needs to go so we still monitor him. Doesn't make for a relaxing night at the telly but hey, he's only a puppy once. Love Struck Love Struck

Loki doesn't often make any indication he needs to go out. He might be a bit more fidgety than usual, but he always is, so that isn't saying much. So I can't help on that one.

House training query Empty Re: House training query

I was lucky.. i caught my pup mid flow on the first day we had him and took him out and really gave him a lot of praise and treats and now he just sits at the door when he wants to go out, Take her outside when she needs to go or not any and everytime thats good for you and go nuts if she does go and soon she will be wanting to go out for this happy ritual. unfortunatly its winter and cold and wet so it may not be the most pleasent thing for her so will take some time. As for whining in the crate it may not be for the toilet just for attention, if you do go to her in the night make sure there are no treats and that you dont speak to her or do anything other than take her out or she will continue to whine at night for a long time, It seems mean but night independance is crucial to keep you in a good frame of mind for the days training. - good luck
