Broken Toe?
We have just taken Sky and her staffy cousin for a run about, then noticed sky limping. We bought them home and i have just checked her over and when i gently press her little 'toe' one one her her paws she flinches and tried to cover her paw with her head. Is there such thing as a broken toe, or maybe its bruised. There is no blood, and as far as i know it looks the same but i havnt had a proper good look as she wont let me. She was sick when she got home, but she doesnt travel very well anyway and we went in the car. Any help?
I know it will probably be a trip to the vets and no money matters in making sure she is ok, but in the 7 months we have had her we have spent a fortune at the vets and really cant afford it again

Re: Broken Toe?
Personally I would give complete rest for a few days and see how she goes, yes they can break the bone in there toes, but I doubt she has and its most likely a strain, if it hasn't got better in a few days then a trip to the vets might be in order for some anti-inflams, do try and have a good look at the pad and in between the toes for any foreign bodies. I hope she is ok and rest will sort it ><

Re: Broken Toe?
I would get it checked over by the vet, or ask to see the veterinary nurse if you can.

Re: Broken Toe?
I'd give a cpl days rest, see if it makes a difference ?
Is she limping much ?
She could have caught it or pulled a claw ?
I doubt there's much can be done for broken toes other than strapping it up and anti-inflamatories.

Re: Broken Toe?
If as you say it looks the same then prob not broken as it would swell up alot it it was. A bit of rest and see how it goes. If its not any better tomorrow think about the vets. They are tough little sods and can power through pain so go with your instincts.

Re: Broken Toe?
If it isn't swollen up I would just rest for a couple of days and see how she does

Re: Broken Toe?
Percy had the same problem
(well he got down from the sofa and injured his toe)
His toe was very swollen and he was crying and shaking with pain, so after a few hours rest I took him to the vets.
They gave him some metacam? (I think that's what it's called) and as it was late in the evening asked us to bring him back the following day incase he needed X-rays etc.
After the injection had kicked in and a good rest over night, the swelling went down loads and the pain was a lot less for him. We took him back and they decided to wait a week before doing an X-ray....so that week was onlead short walks only and to avoid jumping around (easier said than done with a staffie )
They didn't give anymore pain relief as they said a small amount of pain in theory will help Percy remember that he needs to take things easy.
So after the week we went back again and they decided against the sedation and X-ray, he had recovered fine and said with being so young even if it was broken there wasn't a great deal they could do for a broken toe (unless it was a very complicated brake etc)
Sorry to waffle on.....but wanted to share all the information x
