Re: broken my pc
That sucks. If you've got a laptop that's better since it's portable. Hope you didn't lose any data

Re: broken my pc
Our laptop crashed and the repair guy was able to retrieve all of the files. Just cost us the price of a new laptop

Re: broken my pc
If its making a noise it might be the power supply. If its not supplying power to the motherboard then thats probably why the screen is blank

My computer-before-last did that. It makes horrid vibration noises when you turned it on & eventually just wouldn't load up at all. When I took it for repair it turned out that the power inlet (is that the right word?) had burned out & had to be replaced. Only cost about £35 about 5 or 6 years ago.

Re: broken my pc
Steve , if you are not getting anything up on the screen then it is unlikely that you have a HDD failure and more likely a PSU failure / Motherboard failure etc, the mechanical noise could be that the fan is dragging down the PSU (just a guess). Normally if you got HDD failure then you would get an error of some sort on the screen because it would still start up the bios and then report HDD not found or something.
1) Try and find out where the noise is coming from (side off the pc if you are confident for that)
2) If defo nothing on the screen then you should be able to get your hands on a hard drive caddy as below
http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?q=serial+hard+drive+caddy&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=6481684950293149005&sa=X&ei=IK-ST-aDLNGo8APco4TODA&ved=0CIQBEPMCMAM then you can connect over USB with your laptop and hopefully retrieve your files
3) OR you take it to the shop and see what they say, but I would be 100% sure it is a good shop that isn't just going to tell you its f***ed and you need a new one.
4) One last stupid question but is your monitor ok and you are not just noticing the sound from the pc as you have a blank screen , you could always try the monitor on your laptop to be sure, obviously I can't hear the noise to judge myself as it may sound like scrap metal going through a mincer and then I reckon you have a problem but must be worth checking.
Good luck mate and hope you get your data back
