Sick puppy :(
As of yesterday my pup has been sick a few times. Last night she was fine apart from the sickness but today She doesn't seem herself at all. Shes been lying curled up all afternoon on my sons knee. Shes only 11 weeks so doesn'y get out but theres a doggy sickness and diarrhoea bug going around my area that my mums 2 dogs have had....so she may have somehow caught it off them. My question is whats the best course of action?? Currently i am starving her for the time being, (she had some biscuits around 1 but hardly touched them)... but making sure she has plenty water available.

Re: Sick puppy :(
You're doing the right thing at the moment but don't starve a puppy for too long, maybe see how she is tomorrow and pop to the vet just to be sure , she is only a baby after all

Re: Sick puppy :(
A pup can miss one meal, two at the most. If, after that, they are still poorly or not eating, then a trip to the vets.

Re: Sick puppy :(
My 8mth pup had the sickness bug, he lost a lot of weight. Vet gave him antibiotics and an anti-sickness jab.
If no better tomorrow take her to the vet. (I've heard of parvovirus cases too)
Regarding food, when u next feed her give her some boiled/ steamed chicken with rice...this is easily digestible.
Let us know how she goes x

Re: Sick puppy :(
We were told about this bug at our puppy classes in Aberdeen on Tuesday.
The advice we were given was starve the pup for 24 hours but make sure not to withhold water. Then if the problem persists a visit to the vet is advised.
Hope she is better soon >< ><

24 hours is too long for a young pup - it's recommended that you miss 2 meals at the most.

Re: Sick puppy :(
Hey. Thanks for all the useful advice! She's still not herself and has been sick a couple more times since i posted earlier! I phoned the vets for advice and they told me to give her two tablespoons of food at her usual dinner time to see if she ate, which she just turned her nose up at. She's drinking still tho which is a good sign! Gonna try her with a few little bits of chicken soon. If she's still the same tomorrow morning i will defo be taking her to vets....she's currently cuddled in asleep next to my boyfriend....think she's secretly loving all the extra attention! lol x

Re: Sick puppy :(
Well i'm pleased to say Poppy is nearly 100% better today. Was really worried last night as she refused a second lot of food (only a tablespoons worth) and i practically had to force her to drink some water. Amazing what a good nights sleep can do (in beside mum and dad tho.....haha). She woke up this morning and was back to her usual self.....having a mad game of chase around the house with her wee pal Jasper the cat! I'm still only giving her a little food and often as the vet advised just to be on the safe side!
But all in all a happy mummy and a happier puppy
And thanks for the concern.....theres some very nice helpful people on here xx

Re: Sick puppy :(
Glad to hear she's doing better. Might be worthwhile getting a bottle of Kaogel - really good for upset stomachs.

So happy she is better. We have already found we worry as much about Charlie as we did the children!
