Spotty Belly
Hi
I've noticed this evening that Storm has developed quite a few white headed spots on his belly and thighs. They are quite smal,l quite reddish and with a definate white head.
He has had mange recently caught from a friends dog and was last treated a week ago, his final treatment after 4 or 5 monthly visits to the vet.
Would it be worth treating with chlorhex scrub (generic version of hibiscrub, saves a few pounds) and give it a few days/ a week or should I just take him straight to the vets? It doesn't seem to be bothering him or making him itch, not that he'd be able to reach them to scratch them anyhow.

Re: Spotty Belly
I would use the scrub and take a wait and see approach unless it gets worse. He could also have gotten it from a grass or pollen allergy or a mild reaction from something he ate.

Hi Jstaff,
Thanks, It's what my initial thought was, it's always nice to have someone confirm what you are thinking isn't to far from the mark.

Re: Spotty Belly
Tommy had something like this which we assumed came from the long grass in the summer. Vets immediate treatment was a flea treatment and seemed to clear up in a couple of weeks but TBH I think it went of its own accord rather than the flea treatment , we just wanted to treat one thing at a time

Re: Spotty Belly
You might want to try a little t tree oil. Just put a few drops on a cottonwool bud then just roll it over the affected area.

Re: Spotty Belly
Hi guys, thanks for your imputs and suggestions, looking at it today some of the marks are actually small scratches, He had been out in the woods with three other dogs tearing around so I've continued with the hibiscrub today as the whiteheads are now just red blemishes, I shall pick up some tea tree oil in the morning
Thanks again
Andrew

That makes perfect sense to me. Good luck with the scratches.

Re: Spotty Belly
Take care wityh the tea tree oil - a member of a GSD forum recently used some on her dog's back leg, he licked it & was extremely ill for about 5 or 6 days & had to be under the vet for over a week!

Re: Spotty Belly
If they are scratches I would not bother with the T Tree Oil, just pop a little sudocreme on them to aid with the healing process and keep them clean. T Tree Oil is great for killing bacteria but not really necessary on scratches, they should quickly heal anyway.

Ok thanks, I won't use that on him for now then, Storm doesn't lick himself a great deal, mostly licks his paws but not a great deal.

Re: Spotty Belly
The hibiscrub is an antiseptic lotion so that should be keeping it clean, it's not bothering him in the slightest. Just got back from 3 hours in the woods, trying to keep him out of the river, although he doesn't seem to mind the cold water. He's trying to fall asleep on me nowkathytake2 wrote:If they are scratches I would not bother with the T Tree Oil, just pop a little sudocreme on them to aid with the healing process and keep them clean. Re: Spotty Belly
A bit of hibi scrub will clear them spots up My Phebee had similar a few days ago. Its gone now thanks to a good belly wash of Hibi plus once dried dusted with antibacterial powder ( which can be bought at a pet store)

I'll keep my eye open for the antibacterial powder, I haven't come across that before thanks
If you google chlorhex it's a bit cheaper than hibi scrub but it excactly the same stuff, it's a shortening of the full chemical name Chlorhexidine.
