Toilet training
Does anyone know if females are harder to toilet train than males? Bailey learned so quick it's unreal lol, he was toilet trained in 2 days! We've now had Sierra for 3.5 weeks and she's still doing the toilet in her crate/in the house! When I get up in the morning the paper in her crate is soaking. She's getting out every half an hour-45minutes and gets a treat and lots of praise when she goes, when she goes in the house she gets ignored and it gets cleaned up/paper changed, is she just a bit slow or is it a female thing ?

Re: Toilet training
I've always found males mire difficult. Is it just overnight, or all the time?
Tbh, 3.5 weeks isn't a long time, though.

Re: Toilet training
Bailey was really easy to toilet train! i think im just expecting Sierra to be the same as him haha. It's constant, sometimes when I take her out she goes straight away, other times I'm out for 10-20minutes, but if I don't get her in time she'll go wherever she is standing!
The wet paper in her crate is every night and she gets out straight before bed!

Re: Toilet training
I've only had girls and they were all fairly easy to train. Perhaps I am lucky though

Re: Toilet training
Try moving her crate nearer the door every night and encourage her to have a wee etc just before going in her crate for the night. Our dog is funny she won't go anywhere else but the garden. Even if she has been out over an hour she will come home and go straight in the garden.

Re: Toilet training
Tommy was a little bugger to train in comparison to Tilly he was about 4 months when he was mostly clean and just the very odd accident normally in my office when my back was turned. He has been 100% since about 5-5.5 months I guess. Tilly was extremely easy and clean by 3.5 months with the odd excited wee which we soon learnt to control

Re: Toilet training
No ill need to try getting up during the night. One night I had her on my bed and she fell asleep, next thing I know I'm wakening up at 5.30am and she was still out cold, my bed was also dry! Usually when she's in her crate I get up at 6am and the paper is soaking, she's a strange one for sure !

We did always get up through the night with both of ours whilst they were in crates (at first 2 times , then 1 and then 0 ). Now they both sleep on our bed and the OH is always up and down through the night if they want to go they will normally just follow her downstairs

Yeah I think I'm just expecting too much of her lol! We got Bailey on a Friday and by the Sunday he had no accidents! Had Sierra 3.5weeks and she still not much better than when we got her!
I had her out twice in the space of 45 minutes and she peed outside both times, but she also peed twice inside in between getting out!

Re: Toilet training
I used to get up with Bailey during the night but that was easier as he cried to get out. Sierra isn't very vocal, so it's harder to wake myself up at night

Re: Toilet training
alarm clock required , we didn't wake up to Tommy's cries as we soon learn it was mostly attention so good old alarm clock

Re: Toilet training
I think I'll need to just try that then! Bit awkward though as I start work at 7am haha so getting up at 6am is a killer lol.
Sooner the better though that she's trained and can go through the night !

I'd get up in the night (about 4am if you can) to let her out & get rid of the paper from her crate - she probably thinks it's ok to go on the paper so doesn't try to hold it.

Re: Toilet training
Yeah I was thinking of getting up at 3am and taking her out and if the papers wet then get up at 2.30 and so on and try get her out before she does it!
So try removing the paper altogether at night? I'll give it a go tonight and see how it goes

I would - no guarantees that it'll work, but it might. I'd still get up in the early hours though for the time being, just in case!

Re: Toilet training
Will try taking the paper out at night and try get up during the night aswell! Will start tonight.
Hopefully it works, would like her to not have to sleep in her crate at night!

Re: Toilet training
Hi, I have only had my dog for just over 2 weeks, but she is 6 months old. She has not been toilet trained at all ( i think she was left in the garden), we are trying different things on her too. giving her lots of praise and a treat when she does it outside...but she is still weeing and pooing. It is very frustrating.
She is in bed for about 10pm, and then i get up at 6.30 to walk her. maybe i should try the getting up in the night? Only thing is is that she doesnt like being in the garden (maybe due to living in garden in previus 'home').

Re: Toilet training
Is your crate quite big? Sometimes you need to make it smaller while you train them. if they have bed on one side and papers on other they think its ok to go on the papers. If they have mainly bed they don't want to wet it so hold their wee.

Re: Toilet training
It's a medium crate, she has sometimes peed on her bed though. I don't think she's too bothered where she pees!
