Toilet training Empty Toilet training

Post by Steph7990 Wed May 25 2016, 07:54

OK guys so Zeus is finally home and has been settling in and on the whole doing really well. He sleeps through the night (not needing a wee), however toilet training during the day not so great. Day 1 and 2 were good. 3 and 4 have not been. Hes taken to weeing in my hallway. Any tips would be great as to how to support his toilet training. Thank u

It's very early days, so don't worry. It can be frustrating and some pups take longer to get the hang of it than others, but if you persist with good training practice it'll happen.

Take Zeus out very first thing in the morning and last thing at night, then every hour or so, especially after meals. Praise him when he does a wee or a poo. If he does something inside, just clear it up, making sure you use a product that will break down the enzymes to get rid of the smell properly, otherwise where he's wee'd will smell right to him.

Very young puppies haven't developed a feeling of 'oh dear, my bladder is full', so will just go when they need. That comes after a few weeks so even if you do struggle for a while, it will then get easier. Promise.

OK. Thank you for the encouragement managing the morning and night it's just the afternoon/evening. Maybe i haven't broken down the enzymes then as the accidents are all in the same room. I have heard to use white vinegar to break down the enzymes is that correct or not

You can buy special products such as this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Professional-Urine-Neutraliser-Litre-Concentrate/dp/B004NE81I2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1464203787&sr=8-4&keywords=dog+wee

I think vinegar is a key ingredient but I'm not sure if it would work on its own.

a solution of biological washing powder is supposed to be good at removing wee smells/stains.

Oh that's a good idea not heard of that one. On the plus side only 1 accident tonight. And on one of his toilets I'm pretty certain he asked.
