So angry
I posted a few days back about the man who over-reacted when his chocolate labrador growled at my little tash (they are both 5 months old). He dived in got the leads tangled and held mine by the collar.
Well i met him tonight, he was walking his dog, i was coming back from work dogless. I said hello and petted his beautiful dog (who started mouthing my hand). He asked how my dog was so i said fine thanks, he said she's a firecracker. I asked him what he meant and he said that she was a little vicious. I said she certainly wasnt to which he said that tash had been trying to go for his dogs throat. I told him he was having a laugh and she certainly wasnt and it was his dog that had growled. He then asked me if id got kids, to which i replied yes and he said oh i wouldnt like that, and that i needed to be careful as my dog wasnt very nice and he would be afraid to havve my dog with kids.
I told him my dog was brilliant and it had been his dog who had growled and that he had over-reacted, he just raised his eyes and went we'll see.
I'm so angry and wonder if we witnessed the same thing!
Not sure im thick skinned enough for this kind of idiocy

To be fair, not all lab owners are like that, the same as not all staffy owners are aggressive.
That man definitely needs a serious reality check!

Re: So angry
That must have been a very frustrating conversation for you!! He obviously isn't going to know Tash the way you do, and he also needs to realise that even if (I know she didn't just so you don't misunderstand me ) Tash had growled at his dog, why on earth would that mean your children would be at risk! What a ludicrous thing to say. You take no notice, I have been fast learning since having Dexter that some dog owners are plain foolish, and seem to have sand between the ears too!

yes i know, but i find myself thinking, maybe its me and she did do something and i missed it, but i know tash and she loves every dog. And if i had to put up with what tash does from my kids i'd bite them and she doesnt, she's lovely

yeh i know but after all the negativity from everyone about staffies, you get paranoid when something happens. Other dog owners probably dont even notice it

Re: So angry
A true story: some labs are just psycho, an old lady up the road had a Lab bitch that attacked my Staff 5 times!
The first time it just came out of nowhere and went nutts, my boy stood for a moment (on lead) as if to say "is this for real?" then he just flipped on his back and grabbed it by the wind pipe. The old lady went doolally so I asked Max to put it down, he was reluctant at first but I reasoned that he did not know where it had been; so he did!
The next time, I put the boot in myself before it got to Max.
There were words spoken to the old lady's daughter (a friend who loves Staffies) It was agreed that the Lab would be muzzled in future.
The next 2 times it charged across a field, muzzle on, all it could do was blow raspberries and try to head butt my boy, we both (Max and I) rolled arround in fits of laughter while the old lady waived her stick from a distance!!
Psycho!
Now to the point of this story.
There is a saying that "Insanity is hereditary, you get it from your children"
In the case of dogs, insanity is passed on by the owner! FACT.

Youll grow a thick skin to it. You shouldnt have to but you will. You will also and i assure you of this meet some very nice people who will love your dog. There will be times when you come home elated after watching your pooch have the time of there lives with other dogs. Dont dwell on the uneducated and ignorant they just aint worth the bother tbh. I have a great park pack of all types of dogs, the good owners act like magnets and seemto close intogether without predudice.

Re: So angry
Hi Jules, I understand your apprehension. Bacchus is my first staffie and I worry in case he becomes dog aggressive when he matures. Luckily everyone I have met so far loves him as he is a cute 18 week old puppy and loves everyone, human and dogs. I let him meet as many dogs as possible and we go to a staffie training club every Tuesday so he is socialising.
So fingers crossed.

Re: So angry
I have seen through my time on this forum that some dopey dog owners are the same as dopey parents.. It's never their child/dog it's always someone else child/dog fault I haven't yet experienced with my dog but I have certainly experienced with my kids being blamed for leading others astray Can't understand it, why not just take responsibility and correct the bad behaviour..

Re: So angry
It doesn't matter who it is does it really?, they are not important I'm just saying that even us staffy owners are guilty of being blinkered with our opinions and comments, and someone loves to snipe at others and as you proved Dave there is always someone watching taking notes.I Love this forum I have done for months watching and learning and getting to know people, sorry if I offended and sounding like a stalker

Re: So angry
Unfortunately so far that's been my experience. Whenever I hear the "your dog was going for my dog's throat" or "your dog attacked mine" garbage, my reply is usually along the lines of "do you think your dog would be unscathed if mine had attacked it?"rescuestaffords wrote:Thats lab owners for you.

Re: So angry
i had a similar thing when i was young, we had a yorkie that i used to take out every day after school, there was an incident with a boxer that my boy didnt take to so i picked him up and was rewarded with the boxer jumping all over me to get to my dog whilst his owner stood there and watched!! what annoyed me the most was he had the cheek to tell me i need to get my dog (which was on a lead and his wasnt) under control!!! he finally left but when i got home i was bleeding from scratches down my back from his dog, some people just dont think there dog can do any wrong!!!

Re: So angry
The only dog I have ever been bitten by was a black Labrador which was owned by some previous neighbours of mine. This dog went for my face, I was only about 3 or 4 years old at the time luckily my Dad was very close by and able to pull it off me. I ended up in A & E with stitches in my face.
I was walking Rocky yesterday morning when a large golden retriever had a grumble at Rocky so we just walked on by.

I know how you feel, been there when some old p...k kicked my Debo. About the coments- I just smile and say, yes sure. Debo is still sweetheart with other dogs and he always looks suprised when they growl or show teeth. He just dosn't know how to react. One time when some fluffy thing went for Debo for no reason ,the owner was like. That's strange, I thought it would be the other way around. My reply was: I'm not suprised . And walked away.

ha ha jola, thats ace! I know i will get a thick skin to it and knew i would need to when i researched into getting tash. The only problem is i can take criticism aimed at me but if someone criticises my babies both human and dog - i am not amused!
Tash is very well socialised, is on her second training class after acing the first one and is now doing agility and rally and trick training, she has lots of lovely dogs and owners who love her on our regular walks and thinks everyone both human and canine have come out to meet her and her only.
She is theeee most beautiful dog i have ever owned and you're right he was jealous cause his dog wasnt (although it was a beautiful dog lol)

Re: So angry
It's just make me wanna cry. When Debo was little puppy, every one was like oh and ah . Now ,he's still the same dog, still puppy,a bit bigger and lots of people do big circle when see us. And I think that's what confuses him. But we met some good people. Last week Debo was with my OH on the walk. Car passing by suddenly stopped next to them. Inside were oldish couple. My OH thought they just want to ask for directions. The men open the window and said :" Oh ,it's you, I've got one of you at the back off the car, little crazy thing, same like mine, they all the same.Ok ,have a lovely walk, bye." So there are some nice people.
