So angry!!
So, we rescued Deanie from family who were unable to care for him...
We have had him now for 4 weeks, and I have just found out he has never, not even as a puppy had any form of vacs!!!!!
I have just insured him, and will be phoning a vets first thing in the morning!!!
Rant over lol

Re: So angry!!
sort of unsurprising really by the circumstances you got him in , these kind of people should be strung up really ( sorry this is your family and I may be outspoken but I have family like this too ) . I wish people would just stop and think before they get a dog , it is not something to be taken lightly and can have many complications.
For me it is about changing your way of life to own a stafford ( or 2 ) Rethinking all your days , your pocket , your holidays and done right the most rewarding thing you will ever do in your life

Re: So angry!!
Check with your dogs insurance to see what their policy is on vaccinations too. Some of them state that the dog must be vaccinated with boosters each year and some go with whatever the vet advises you to do.
Check the small print first.

Re: So angry!!
Thanks for the advice guys, I will have a look at the policy!!
I went on the assumption he had a least his 1st as a pup, but guess I just cant trust what she tells me about him!!
I love him to bits, and couldn't imagine my family home without him now

Am I right that after the first year of vaccinations they aren't really needed? It's just a way vets get money out of you?

Re: So angry!!
Various scores of thoughts on vaccination, but whatever route you decide to go down, it's important to ensure that you've learned about it from as many angles as possible.
I don't blame you for being angry. If they've told you that he was vaccinated when he wasn't, that's disgraceful.

Re: So angry!!
Well done Georgie for taking on Deanie.
It's a pity you were lied to, but as Deanie has got to 3 years old without contracting any nasty illnesses, he must have pretty good natural immunity (unless he has also been sheltered from other dogs and their environs).
Also, it's because other dog owners over the years have been vaccinating their dogs that some of the illnesses are much less common than they were.
However, insurance aside, personally I would get him vaccinated, just to create the antibodies.
Whether you continue to vaccinate year after year is another question, and one I'm still battling with myself.

I believe the recommnedation is the first jabs and then the boosters but after this it depends on the vacinnes . I know Caryll has done a lot of research on this and there are tests that can be done to check if the dogs need certain ones or not . TBH this is way over my head so I am opting with the put my trust in the vet method but I have spoken to him on the subject and his vaccinations change according to the previous years etc and the requirements . I just don't want to think that i may make a mistake that causes problems for the kids

well i don't give any vacs including puppy ones, IMO getting money is one part but for me i don't vaccinate as dogs do not need them and the risk of over vaccing is a huge risk

Re: So angry!!
I do give dogs their first initial puppy vaccines. I just think the risk of Parvo is too high not to, especially here in the south west. But after this I don't give them a booster til 2 years then don't bother again til 5. Like Ella I don't want to risk over-vaccinating but think it is good to give them an initial immunity so their immune system can build.
