OPINIONS PLEASE!!!!

Hi everyone just asking everyone what would you do in my position. One of my horses is 24 years old and has arthritis in her hip bones there is nothing that can be done its too far gone for injections,she has muscle waste in her rear as shes not moving corectly. Throught winter she is on strong pain killers to ease aches and pains.
She is happy enough eats well and does nothing stressfull and can still gallop up and down the feild.
The advise im asking is when is enough enough and when to have her pts do I let her go out with dignity when she still able or do I wait till she can no longer stand the pain.
What would be the right way to do right by her?

I think you have to trust your own instincts.

You will know when it is time... you will look out on her one day and see the "special look" in her eyes and she will let you know,
It is such a hard decision to make.. but I am sure you will do what you need to when the time comes

Don't really know alot about horses but I'm guessing you will know if she is happy or not? If she is ok in herself then I think she will be ok to keep going,as mel said I'm sure you will know when she is ready to go! Hope she is ok though!

It's such a hard decision to make. But you love her too much to let her suffer. I'm sure when the time comes you'll know, and you'll find the strength to let her go.

i agree with all the above posts. You will know when its time, im so sorry to hear this! I cant imagine what you must be feeling after such a long time together.

Gem i feel for you 3 times i went to the vets with my last dog expecting not to take her home but when the time finally did come it just felt right, you'll know when the right time is because you know the horse better than anyone x

Such a hard thing to have to do, especially after such a long time together. Don't know what else to say, apart from we are always here to lend a ear

Thanks you guys its just I know shes okay for now but sometimes I feel am I being selfish Im defo keeping her till the end of next summer she loves the warm weather and then ill see what her condition is like and weigh up the options then

Yes, give her the summer to enjoy & then just see how she is.

To be honest, if the painkillers are working, she's comfortable & content, I'd leave her be. She deserves a peaceful retirement & when the time comes you can give her a dignified peace.

It is defo a decsion you have to make and truat your own instict she will let you know when the time is right and she has had enough. I love horses my boss at work has 4 mucked out with her once dont know how you do it all the time its too cold in the winter

We are raving mad and you have to be 100% commited im mucking my 2 out about 6.30- 7am every morning

Aww so sorry to hear this its so sad! Same as above you will know when its time and you will make the rite decision for your girl see how she goes and hopefully she will get her nice summer before that time comes.

Thats another amazing thing about animals especially horses their so intuned you'll be able to see it in her eyes when she is ready, Just like we did with our spliff.

It is definately dedication that i love them but couldnt cope with the mucking out in winter too cold
