Nature Diet - anyone tried it?
Hello!
Popped along with a friend to their dog training class to sit in and see if I could learn anything new.
The trainer was a massive advocate of the nature diet for dogs: http://www.naturediet.co.uk/
Currently we feed http://www.barkingheads.co.uk/ which Floyd likes, but I worry about the viability of vitamins etc after the food has been heated to ~400 degrees C for drying. Nature Diet also has a protein content of ~17% compared to the 22% in Barking Heads which is on the upper limit (Floyd is practically made of beans, never mind full of them )
It looks amazing and has a very similar balance to BARF, but without the possibility of accidental illness from bacteria or throat/stomach/intestinal damage from bones (we also have a teeeeeeny freezer). Floyd also takes on water faster than the titanic and feeding a wet food should help with that.
Anyway, I'm interested to see if anyone feeds this and what you think?
Thanks!

Re: Nature Diet - anyone tried it?
I use it when I go away camping or visiting family - not everyone likes the thought of raw dog meat in their fridge.

I don't like all the veg and grains in it, but then i do feed raw and don't add veggies.
It's definitely better then a lot of wet food out there though

We feed Rocky on Barking heads which he loves and doesn't appear to drink any more than he did when fed on another dry food. We just add a little cooked, cooled chicken to it for him.
A lot of wet foods do contain high levels of water which I can get from my tap a lot cheaper, (but thats just my own personal view).

I get your point about the water Kathy, for some reason the sell about water really worked on me. Perhaps it's more applicable to puppies who need regular wee opportunities (Floyd gets plenty of those too!).
Might stick to the Barking heads for now then as Floyd's happy on it.
P.S. thanks for the edit, my mistake. Am in the habit of descriptive links.

That maybe, but if you visit veggies, they certainly don't want meat in their fridge and if you go camping for a week it would go off in no time!

Re: Nature Diet - anyone tried it?
I used to feed Bailey on ND, but feeding ND alone costs a fortune! Bailey worked out at 2-2.5 trays a day and at 98p a tray it soon added up! Plus I have 2 other dogs, luckily Bailey and Sierra are fed exclusively raw, so not too expensive for the 2 of them! And Meg is on WW trays and Arden Grange dry

I keep it in the fridge until it's fed.
I've fed off, stinky green meat i've found before and would do again. I do not waste food.

i've fed her mince that's went a wee bit off before to save binning it, but that was back before she was on raw and i cooked it off before giving her it. My oh was grossed out and was like "you cani do that!" he doesn't seem to understand she's a dog, they eat horse poo for god sake!!

Re: Nature Diet - anyone tried it?
Well my two are obviously on raw and the stinkier the better as far as they are concerned.
I'll offer them any meat even really gone off green, rotten stuff if they eat it they do, if they don't they don't.
They have never turned it down nor have they had a bad stomach from it
