Moo's progress
First topic message reminder :
This is more for me and anyone that wants to give me positive vibes, I know I could do with it.
So the back ground for those who don't know, Moo has had a limp for a month now, been to the vets twice, apart from x-rays I am at my last point of call, a different course of anti-inflams for 14 days and total rest.
Day 2; stopped indoors all day, great day off, limp has been obvious in the house. Have put her very old bed on the floor (been under my bed for last 2 years) so she doesn't keep hoping up and down on mine.
Small incident of her running into the door (glass), she saw a cat, and she has a lot of energy to get rid of. Never has she done this before!
Just taken her out for a toilets, we don't have a garden so its a 2min walk, no limp visible.
She has now gone to bed, hers on the floor bless her.
Fingers crossed and positive vibes for tomorrowXx

Re: Moo's progress
So glad they have found what it is, and you can manage it, and back to normal for you both. Can I ask how much weight Moo put on, as Pixee is laid up maybe for up to 8weeks, it would help me plan what I need to do to help Pixee. Really pleased you have the answer and can move forward ><

Re: Moo's progress
Thanks Janey. Ouch thats over half stone if I am correct? Oh I better make sure I dont over fed Pixee as I am having to carry her up and down the stairs, and she is 18.8Kg. I have already cut down her portions, but then she is not eating all of it, due to lack of excise, but I am giving her the kong more often to keep her happy with something to do.
You will soon get Moo back to her normal weight, now she can get about, and I bet she is a happy girl today . ><

Re: Moo's progress
Hi Janey - I lost my internet connection AGAIN on Sunday night and haven't been able to connect until just now and who knows when it will drop again. So this is in a hurry.
I have caught up with Moo's story since I left it on Sunday night, and I am so glad that you have at last learned the truth of the matter. Although arthritis isn't the best news in the world, it could have been a LOT worse. I had two dogs at different times who developed arthritis in their later years - it was most apparent when they got up from resting, and disappeared with exercise. But with meds they lived long and happily.
I'm relieved for you and Moo. ><

Re: Moo's progress
Yes very pleased I now know what I am dealing with.
Not gonna lie it was a kick in the teeth & rather gutted, I had hoped she may need a small op to cut back a little bone, not to hear she had arthritis in all 6 joints at her age.
Hay ho, she has, she has it forever, and we will learn to manage with it.
Thank you so much for your support Xx

Re: Moo's progress
Not sure to be honest, the vet said her teeth/gums are perfect but to have this much arthritis is very odd for a youngster.
Who knows, but she did say (in a nice way), I may think she will go for another 10 years, well, she might not lol (and not laughing in a funny sense but in a she will have the greatest next few years sense )! Xx

Re: Moo's progress
the avg age of staffy is only 12 years moo nearly half way xena still limping along at the age of 10
Re: Moo's progress
I've always had dogs from puppies, so I don't know what it feels like not to know how old your dog is. Teeth are usually the best indication of course, but by no means as accurate an indication of age as in horses, for example.
I had the most wonderful horse in the world who developed arthritis aged 15 (kind of middle-aged), and in fact I have heard of relatively young humans who have suffered from it. My arthritic Dobes were about 8 or 9 years old when they developed it. It strikes where it strikes for whatever reason and is not what we would wish for our nearest and dearest, but Metacam IS a big help. And animals don't WORRY about these things as we humans do.
All we can do as an animal's owner is to give them the best care and love we can every day of their lives.
You'll get used to this situation Janey, and with the appropriate meds and your loving care Moo will have the BEST life and probably for many years to come. ><

Re: Moo's progress
Yeah, the great thing about dogs is they don't seem to focus on the "oh great, I've got something wrong with me," instead they're always enjoying whatever good things they get. And Moo has a wonderful life with you, so that'll continue
Even though it's probably not the answer you wanted, I'm glad you finally have an answer, at least the worry of the unknown isn't there anymore.

Re: Moo's progress
At least the limping is probably more stiffness than pain. Good to know it's nothing really nasty, anyway.
The metacam will help, but you might benefit from having a look at some holistic arthritis treatments. I'm told a lot of them can work extremely well.

P.S. Green Lipped Mussel extract is supposed to be really good for reducing any inflammation in the joints...

Re: Moo's progress
Now that we know it's arthritis, then I would agree with Caryll that the limp after resting is due to stiffness and not pain. You have lots of medications and supplements to choose from, now it is just a question of finding what suits Moo best.

Re: Moo's progress
She is doing fine thank you Lynn, she hasn't done any huge walks yet and I haven't had her off lead, but mums having her today and I said she can take her off and give her 2 slightly longer walks as its so mild today.
Looking forward to my days off so I can take her out for longer, the injection seemed to have really helped and she is back in on Wednesday for her second one.
Just have to keep reminding myself that I can't wrap her up in cotton wool and some days the limp is going to be worse than other days. But so far so good thank you Xx

Re: Moo's progress
I am so glad the injections are helping, and no I agree you cant keep her wrapped up in cotton wool. Those coats are going to help too, as they look so warm. At least you know the reason for those limps and that in it self will help. The walks can help too, slow and build up from there. Moo is going to be one excited girl off lead today ><

But I have managed to catch up with your story and am glad to hear that Moo is progressing well, keep up the good work (I don't need to tell you that, I know you are doing everything possible).
Enjoy your Christmas tree!
