What would you do/expect to be done
What would you do/expect to be done
At a loss as to what is right. Highway code doesn't cover it cause it's *.
Say you are walking along a road with no path (with or without your dog) and you meet a horse, they will be on the same side as a vehicle so coming at you (as long as your are on the correct side of the road lol) would you move around the horse or expect the horse to move around you?
Technically speaking, the horse should move around you, but would you feel intimidated or afraid if it did?
Would you expect them to cross the road, or would you cross the road even if there was a steady flow of traffic?

Re: What would you do/expect to be done
I've only ever come across horses when I walk up to my mums with the dogs. Its all narrow country roads and I usually cross over and keep the dogs well in to the side so they don't spook the horse. I don't think I would be intimidated by the horse walking around me but I would worry about the dogs not liking it and barking, scaring the horse.

So long as everyone remains calm it should be OK, I would let the horse go around me.

Yeah i probably would too. But say its a larger road, with traffic. What would be the right thing to do?

Would you expect them to say "are you happy with me going around you" or would you say to them "i will walk on the inside if thats ok"

It would probably be safer then to let the horse walk around you if it was a busy road. The cars should slow down going past I would hope.Hayley wrote:~Caroline~ wrote:I've only ever come across horses when I walk up to my mums with the dogs. I would ask them if they wanted me to stay in to the side I think.

really there taking the role of the vehicle so should act as a car would and move out to go round you and if the rider not confident to do this they shouldnt be excersising on road

but its not always the rider that is unconfident, the horse might be in training which needs to be done in a calm sensitive manner, dunno if a person up their inside and a car on the outside would help much lol

I would tuck myself in as far as possible & stop. That way the rider can control the horse around me without wondering if I'm going to move!

Yeah, I would just ask them calmly to go around me.

ah, see that can be a problem, if you tuck in and the horse thinks you have gone, when it comes up and sees you it might go mental. they don't have great forward vision so most things "pop out" at them only when they are at the side of them
