Re: The most aggressive dogs.
Australian cattle dogs are really common biters, i have seen many where you couldnt even get out the car for fear it would rip your leg off, but in the same respect my family in australia have one and she's a huge coward and sook

Surprised to see the akita there.
I interact daily with a lot of akitas and akita crosses and they all seem quite soppy.

Re: The most aggressive dogs.
I am also surprised about the pit and a lack of lab/golden. They are more commonly biters in my experience. Pits have some of the most stable temperaments and would have made terrible pit dogs if they really were aggressive. Sure this isn't referring to animal aggression and not people aggression? Would make more sense to me if it were...

Re: The most aggressive dogs.
It was just some kids book about 10 of something like 10 biggest spiders in the world. The possition 1 and 2 make me laugh, that's why I put it here. I interact with most of these dogs and I don't igree with german sheperds or spaniel. But it's just for people who thinks that Staffies are bad.

Re: The most aggressive dogs.
It doesn't state what type of aggression they're tallking about,I don't agree with most of it ,post it only because didn't see a staffy there. And my employers were really suprised they not on the list, which really upset me.

Re: The most aggressive dogs.
Just noticed the beagle is in there, too.
There's a few of them at the rescue I foster for and while they seem to be very barky and professional diggers/trainee escape artists, they're all really friendly towards me.
Hmm.

I don't take it seriously, for it just shows that any dog can be aggressive but when I found it couldn't resist to rub it in my bosses faces that Staffies are not there.

Re: The most aggressive dogs.
It's weird isn't it, if you look up the ten least aggressive dogs you get links like
http://www.ehow.co.uk/list_6624470_10-least-aggressive-dogs.html
featuring labrador retrievers, however I would have been far less likely to have a lab with my kids than a staff any day, just personal preference (and total staffie bias of course )
Funny that a dalmatian isn't on the biggest biters list either, they are definitely not for homes with young kids imo

Re: The most aggressive dogs.
I don't get it. Isn't the point that, though all dogs breeds have different traits, it depends on the owner rather than the dog (most of the time)?

Andy wrote:I dont like that the pit is on there at all ... where is the list compiled from ? I dont tend to take much notice of these type of things but I dont think I have ever seen a pit on one of these lists before
I think it is only in there due to the fact that most of these lists are based on reported attacks and unfortunately the poor pitbull's name takes over for many different crossbreads, so therefore they make it onto most lists. I doubt many reported attacks are made by actual pitbulls.. Most thugs or dealers say they own pitbulls but they are not true pits..
This is the our list of most dangerous dogs in order of the most attacks on people - Australian Cattle Dog;Pit Bull Terrier; Doberman; German Shepherd; and Rottweiler.
Bull crap!! I have never been bitten by any of these breeds except nips from a blue cattle dog, but I have had countless bites from Chihuahuas ( my exs mother bread them) and both my son and I have in separate instances been bitten by a golden retriever and a poodle.. This is how ludicrous these lists are.. The German Shepherd - No 5 most aggressive.. The german Shepherd -No 4 Top recomended family dogs @ lists compiled by same author

Re: The most aggressive dogs.
I've lifted this from another site... it gives the stats on US attacksm, thought it was interesting.
Facts
Each year, 4.7 million people are bitten by dogs. (There are 58 million dogs in the United States.)
Children are three times more likely to be bitten than adults.
Over 500,000 people per year receive medical attention for dog bites.
There are about 10 dog bite fatalities per year.
Dog bites have reached epidemic proportions.
]
German shepherds and chow chows are more likely to be involved in biting incidents than other breeds.
Male dogs are six times more likely to bite than females.
Sexually intact dogs are 2.6 times more likely to bite than neutered dogs.
Rottweiler and pitbull breeds account for 67 percent of human fatalities.
The top 10 breeds involved in lethal dog bite attacks, accounting for four or more human deaths each over the last 20 years, are: pitbull-type (66), Rottweiler (39), German shepherd (17), husky-type (15), malamute (12), Doberman (9), chow chow (, Saint Bernard (7), Great Dane (7) and Akita (4).
Twenty-five breeds have been involved in 238 dog bite fatalities over the past 20 years.
About 82 percent of deaths involved unrestrained dogs either on (58%) or off (24%) the owners' property
True and False
All dogs may bite – its what dogs do. (TRUE)
Dog bites can largely be prevented by proper training and management. (TRUE)
Dog bite fatalities are relatively uncommon. (TRUE)
People are more dangerous than dogs. (TRUE)
Chronically irresponsible dog owners are to blame for many of the problems. (TRUE)

Children should be taught never to play with or approach a strange dog, and to avoid direct eye contact with unfamiliar dogs. They should also never play with a dog without adult supervision. (TRUE)
To single out certain breeds as potentially more dangerous is canine racism. (FALSE)

most kennels here won't take akitas because they come across as soppy but will attack for no reason, they are one dog that many experts say is truely unpredictable, but it is only with strangers as they are totally in love with their owner/carers so.

i think the breed of dog makes no difference, but its the type of people who get those dogs. most people who get little dogs mollycoddle them and make them so anxious and mentally messed up they are very agro, then the ones who have the cattle/sheep/guard dogs usually have them because they are working dogs and working dogs are very territorial because that is only natural for a canine and working brings out more natural behaviour. pitbulls are on it because people are w*****s and want to look hard, but effectively they are also a "working" dog
