feeding them in the area they are peeing in to get them to stop - true? Empty feeding them in the area they are peeing in to get them to stop - true?

hi again - i heard something about if you feed dogs in the same place where they sleep or at least in the same room that they won't pee or eliminate where they eat and sleep. we feed her in the kitchen which is right next to "her room" but it's not "her room". her kennel is in the living room, and there is a divider door that is often shut. she can come into the kitchen and she never messes in it, only in her kennel room. she just had another accident, but i don't know why.

also, part 2 of my question: if not, will the pee in a place out of spite or for attention? she was sitting in the kitchen with us while we ate, which we sometimes do and sometimes don't do. i know we should be more consistent about it, my preference is in her room with the kennel in it and not in the kitchen with us. so anyway, she was fine and then barked a bit for food so we put her out of the kitchen into her room, where she immediately went to the center of the room and peed. she had peed about an hour before, if that.

I don't think so. I mean, they won't willingly go to the toilet where they eat or sleep because...well, it's where they sleep and eat. That's why crate training is meant to be so good. But obviously they might still do it. Not long ago, Loki peed in his cage while giving me a "not ignoring me now, are you?" look Laughing so I wouldn't be surprised if it was done for attention. I think they're less likely to do it in the immediate area they eat, but same room? Oh no, I'm sure they consider it a big enough area for both Laughing

No, feeding where they've peed won't stop them & they certainly don't pee out of spite!

Dogs will pee wherever they feel they are able to. It's up to you to show them where it isn't acceptable. You can only do that by showing them where it is acceptable, ie in the garden or outside somewhere.

Dogs don't do anything out of spite. They are not capable of spite - that's a human emotion. If they pee inside then it should be cleaned up with the minimum of fuss & with a cleaner that eliminates the smell completely. One of the best & cheapest ways is by using a solution of biological washing powder or liquid. Don't use anything that has amonia in it because that will smell like pee to the dog & encourage it to go there again!

You talk about 'her' room. I'm afraid that's nonsense. Her 'room' is ever room in the house which she is allowed to go in to. But that doesn't mean she will pee in every room! She will only pee/poop wherever she thinks it's ok to pee/poop, or wherever she is if she cannot hold it in any longer!

I think what happened when you put her out of the room was that she was confused - you said yourself that you sometimes do & sometimes don't let her in the kitchen when you eat. Dogs need routine & clear guidelines - you need to decide whether she should be in there or not & then stick to it!

Very well said and totally agree

yes, thanks - i know the spite thing isn't really "something" for dogs, but sort of like Loki's "you're not ignoring me now" look... i wondered if it was that sort of thing like i know there is something that will get your attention. not that we make a fuss when she pees or poos inside (which isn't that often, but it still happens), and we have house trained her by all the rules. but because of those rules, we of course go to her when she does it and put her outside, and maybe that's all she wanted, was the attention, since we were ignoring her at the table. makes sense?

i totally agree, we should just stick her in her kennel or the "other" room where her kennel is (again, not really her room but it's where all her stuff is and where she spends most of her time, well, there and the kitchen because we don't let her downstairs), but that's a whole other argument, one that i'm settling tonight and from now on! No in the kitchen when we eat, period.
