Womb infection
My Dolly dog is currently in hospital having collapsed yesterday afternoon. She has a womb infection and they have operated and spayed her. The vet has just rung and said she is fine but still very sleepy so they are keeping her in again on drip,IV and pain relief.
Has anyone else had the same with their staff? If so what can I expect when she is home? Will she need a gentle diet like boiled chicken and rice etc?
Thanks x

Re: Womb infection
My very first dog had pyometra (womb infection) but that was 40+ years ago!
As with any abdominal surgery she'll have to be kept calm for a few days (good luck with that) and have light food for a couple of days. I'm sure your vet will cover that with you when you pick her up, though!

Re: Womb infection
good luck with her , I imagine it's the same kind of care as a routine spay but please check with the vet, nice and steady 2 days lead in garden for wees then gentle lead walks in the garden for the 1st week , easy on the stairs, no jumping and 1 weeks further gentle lead walks after. The diet I suppose depends on how quickly she pulls round but certainly something nice and light for a couple of days

Re: Womb infection
Cannot think of anything else to add really, if you have any questions for the vet try to remember to write them down, that's what I do that way I don't forget to ask..............

Hugs and cuddles to Dolly. What a shock too. I would do as others have said, write all down and ask the vet. I bet you cant wait for tomorrow to have her home and spoilt her rotten

Re: Womb infection
Dolly dog is home! Doing well and back to vet Friday to check on her wound.
She is obviously sore but we have made her a bed up on the sofa and she is cuddled up to her favourite cuddly toy.
TLC by the bucket loads for our girl xx

So glad she's home. They always recover quicker once they're in familiar surroundings.

So glad Dolly girl is home and now on her way to recovering. Nothing like TLC from her family.

Re: Womb infection
Sorry to hear your girlie got the dreaded Pyo
Now shes had the surgery she'll soon be back to her old self.
But remeber not only do you need to keep her as calm as you can ... not easy with a Stafford, Make sure the wound is kept clean and if need be bathe in tepid salt water with cotton wool.
