Change in behaviour at 12 months
Hi can anyone help....
I have an 11 month old bitch who has always been an angel, loving submissive to other dogs, dosile, laid back, obediant. Until a few weeks ago.
She no longer listens when off the lead. Hyperactive in the house and started to chew!!
Is it true that 12 months of age is classed as adolescence?
can I put this down to an age thing?

Re: Change in behaviour at 12 months
Sounds just like the teenage phase although it came on a bit late. Just go back to basics and ride it out

Possibly, Have you changed anything? Diet, exercise etc?
Has she been spayed?

She is not spayed no, I am gettting her spayed next month.
No I have changed nothing and I really don't want to have to go back to crating her once I am out. She is just full on wild at the moment. Not nasty just bursting with energy.

She just sounds to be pushing her boundries, I would be inclined to use the crate again, just when your out to save any damage she do to herself, it won't last forever

I'd agree with Janey, crate her while you're out & go back to basics with her training.
When was her last season?

Re: Change in behaviour at 12 months
She came into season at 7 months, she is now JUST this week 11 months.
She ws the dream pup, almost cat like and so dainty (she still is tiny at 14.5'' tall) but just seems to be over the top when playing with the other dog. bounding about in the lounge and not listening when off the lead!!
She has gone off her food in the past 2 weeks also. And I have noticed her to be wee'ing more again... Been thinking maybe she is getting ready for a season but id the last was only 4 months ago I doubt that do you? she's sniffing loads now when out walking too .

Re: Change in behaviour at 12 months
The first couple of seasons can be a little erratic, so it's certainly possible. It could be that or it could be the dreaded teenage months - know everything, listen to nothing & nobody understands her!
I'd keep an eye on her over the next week or so & see if there are any changes/discharge in her lady bits!

I walk her once a day, about 45mins - 1hr and I also let her off the lead for a run.

A dog of her age should really be getting more than that. Minimum two walks a day of at least 45 minutes, but preferably more.
Bandit used to get an early morning walk of around an hour, an early afternoon walk the same or longer & then an evening walk, summer was a long one, winter was shorter. Dempsey gets a similar amount.
Is she still misbehaving?

Re: Change in behaviour at 12 months
Hi
She has calmed down a lot over the past month.
To be fair I was told by her breeder not to walk her for longer than an hour a day until she was 12 months.
I take her twice a day..once for 45 mins on the lead in the morning and once for about 20-30 mins off the lead for a run when I finish work around 4pm.
She is being a lot better.. recently. I am pretty sure it was an age thing with her :-)

Re: Change in behaviour at 12 months
I am getting her spayed on the 23rd November... I am really worried about it.
With regards to the naughty ways.. it seemed to go as quick as it came. It lasted about 10-12 weeks but she is a lot better. She did come into season again in the middle of this so I am putting it down to that. Well age and teenage hormones.

Don't be. She'll be fine - your biggest problem will be keeping her quiet for three weeks!
