Toilet training by ringing a bell...

We trained our Lhasa Apso to ring a bell when she needed to pee as we lived on the 3rd floor or a block of flats and we couldn't just leave a door open for her to go in and out whenever she wanted. It worked brilliantly for her and it's funny how it seems to have kicked off these days, with bells specially for dogs to ring etc now (bear in mind she's now 10 and we trained her this from 8 weeks old...seems like just yesterday!!)

But my question is...do you think this would work with a staffy? Laika is a very different dog to Judi - Judi would have gone outside in all weathers - she still does just to sit in the rain! Laika is a complete wimp and hates the cold so I worry she wouldn't bother to ring it as she'd know she had to go outside?? I already have to chase her with the lead as it is and she's been dragged out to pee, only to do nothing because it's too cold, then come back inside and peed in the hall!!

Anyone tried it with staffies with any level of success?

Never tried it. I've always lived where access to outdoors was easy

We've trained out Staffie x to go to the the toilet by telling her to have a wee. I was getting fed up of standing in the back yard at night in the cold wating for her to go to the toilet. She was 2 when we got her and it didn't take long for her to learn.
