Thoughts Please. Empty Thoughts Please.

Most of you that have seen any of my previous posts will know i have had all sorts of problems trying to find a mix of food that Alfie will take to, just when i thought i had it cracked he has now given me another problem.
I have eventually arrived at feeding him on Taste of the wild (puppy) with a little Lukullus mixed in, he loves it and always clears his dish in one visit, however some mornings he has started being sick after eating his food, he has the same at lunchtime with no problems and again at night with no problems, he is fine in himself but what might be causing him to be sick after his first feed.
I'm wondering if the dry puppy food pieces are too small as he tends not to chew them, which kind of defeats the object as i thought they were supposed to chew them to clean their teeth,

Any ideas ?

According to my vets dry food does nothing for a dog's teeth, in fact more and more dogs are needing their teeth treated and many have to have some taken out. I haven't found an insurance company who will insure dogs teeth unless the damage was a accident like happened with Cyril, be broke both is bottom canine teeth. Extraction, scale and polish you have to pay yourself and it can be expensive.

After my Greyhound nearly choking several times I started to soak the dry food, it was the best thing I ever did. I still have to take care of my dogs teeth, they get a raw chicken wing, lamb or pork rib daily, this keeps their teeth in good condition. My vets recommend that I clean my dogs teeth but when there are 5 of them it will be quite an operation, she checked their teeth and was surprised at how clean they were.

Dry food doesn't keep a dog's teeth clean, but it will keep them in better condition than tinned food.

What time is the last feed of the day?

If there is a long gap between feedings he could be eating too fast which is causing him to be sick.

Fair point from J , why don't you try feeding the morning meal in a kong or the kong wobble dispenser to slow it up a bit

Either that or space the feeds out more evenly.

eg
Breakfast 7.30am
Lunch 2.30pm
Dinner 9.00pm

I feed my dogs 3 times a day and try to get 8 hours between feeds, this is on vets advice, when feeding 2 meals a day a dog should be fed as near as possible to 12 hours between feeds.

If a dog goes too long between feeds they can bring up a foamy substance, this is normal with a dog with an empty stomach.
