What food may be best - neutered male 7months
hi could anyone sugest a goo dry food for my neutered male.
our vet said that 'normal' dry food will have to much energy and may make him over weight as his body will store it.
We feed him on Skinners feild and trial puppy food at the min. Which he seems to enjoy but may need to be altered
Any advise or suggestions welcome. x

To be honest, whatever suits him is right for him. All I'd say is avoid the poorer quality food. Skinners isn't one of the best, but you could do a lot worse! Food like Bakers should be avoided like the plague!
I feed raw, but it isn't for everybody.

If I could I would feed raw, but It doesn't suit me so after a bit of trial and error I feed Fish4Dogs, here is a link of recommended dry foods

Is there any medical reason why your vet thinks 'normal' food will make him overweight?
Carbs tend to be stored as fat in dogs so foods low in carbs but high in animal protein are your best bet.
Skinners F&T isn't a bad budget food, certainly a lot better than supermarket own and similar but it's full of carbs in the form of various grains.

If neutering is the only reason why your vet has recommended changing his food then I wouldn't worry.
Feed him what you have been doing if you're happy with it and that's all you can afford then if he starts to put weight on, just decrease the amount he's getting a little and/or up his exercise a bit.
Food specially for neutered dogs is just a money making gimmick.
I personally wouldn't feed Royal Canin, if you can afford it then you can get MUCH better foods for the price. Applaws and Fish4Dogs to mention just two.
Maybe have a look at www.whichdogfood.co.uk to help you choose a new food if you want something better than the Skinners.

Don't bother with that, it's a gimmick! Just stay on the food he's on, if you're happy with it, and if he puts on weight just decrease the amounts a little.

Re: What food may be best - neutered male 7months
Because his been neutered this dont necessarily mean his going to put on weight.
My 2 girls that have been neutered, one has put on a bit of weight the other shes just as trim as the day she had the op, and both are feed the same amount and have the same routine
I do agree with the others this so called special diet for neutered dogs is just a money making scheme/gimmick.
