In season female and neutered male?
Bailey is in her first season. Not quite ripe yet, but when she is, should I keep Rocky away from her even though he is neutered? If I let them get together, will it make her feel less desperate? Or would I be putting her at unnecessary risk of infection? Would it also increase the risk of phantom pregnancy, or is this not a factor? New to this, all advice welcome, thanks!

Keep them apart - they can still 'mate' and 'tie' even tho ur lad is neutered.
Best to avoid an unnecessary going on.

I'd keep them apart but only because it's a pain otherwise!

Re: In season female and neutered male?
Well what a lot of fun this has turned out to be (not). Rocky's testicles being removed (at 10 months) certainly didn't remove his hormones. He is running round with a crazed look in his eyes and his nose stuck to Bailey's rear end. If she stops he is on her and then she yelps or growls and tries to bite him. I have to keep them separated as much as possible.
Poor Bailey has been bleeding for 2 weeks so far, looks thoroughly miserable and confused, and spends most of her time running away from Rocky or running away from me trying to put her Mikki pants on. I have promised her that she will never have to go through this again.
In fact, considering the mess, hassle and stupid o'clock walks, none of us ever want to go through it again!

Oh, the equipment's still there, it's just the firing pin that's missing!

Oh poor Rocky and Bailey, it must be nightmare.
I never knew that a castrated dog could still mate - what a revelation. We learn something new every day

We learnt the hard way They were only alone for 5 mins, after that they were separated if we weren't with them, I too didn't realise that they could tie (even phoned our vets as was rather worried at the time). Icky!

Re: In season female and neutered male?
This has gobsmacked me, frankly. I mean, we all grew up with the knowledge of eunuchs being in harems because they couldn't - you know - interfere with the king's (or whatever) property, but now it seems .....
Not worried about the harems, but I honestly in all my long years it never crossed my mind that a castrated male of any animal could still do the evil deed, or even want to (more to the point).
It just shows how old you can get and still be innocent and ignorant - I need to lie down in a quiet dark place now to get over the shock

OMG, and vets promote neutering!! I thought the "sexy feeling" would disapearcanthavethat wrote:Well what a lot of fun this has turned out to be (not). the thing being is that when they castrate humans they took the berries AND twig, dogs get to keep the second half
Re: In season female and neutered male?
OMG Taryn, did they? Sheesh.
Even so, I'm still surprised that the twig still works, albeit without the firing pin. As I said, you're never too old to learn.

Crikey. Poor blokes.
WELL - at least that doesn't happen to our dogs, cats, horses, and hopefully not to humans these days.
