7 week old puppy, is he safe to go out in our back garden??????
Hi all, i am now the proud owner of a 7 week old staffy puppy, we have only had him for 2 days and are bigining to toilet train him, he is due for his 1st injections on Monday 27th August, we were told by the lady at the vets that we couldnt let him outside on the floor, we only want him to go into our back garden where we know No other dogs have been, So my question is this, Is it safe for me to take him into our back garden while toilet training before he has had his 1st injections ????
We were only supposed to collect him on the 26th but due to the Mum of the puppies struggeling to feed 8 pups and also keep her weight up, so the owner asked if we could have Nero our pup 1 week early.

Hello and welcome from me and the kids Have to say Tommy used the garden from day 1 at 7 weeks and 2 days old but by my personal choice as the garden is enclosed and only our othe staff using it, if you are doubtful within yourself then go with the advice of your vet (mine told me I was ok )

I would take him out. Personally i think people mollycoddle dogs too much anyway. Its like kids, if you dont let them play in the dirt they wont get a chance to build up natural resistance.

Hi and welcome from me and Charlie
The only worry is if there has been an animal in your garden that has some kind of illness, it can be passed on in the poo etc. If you have your own garden and you know that there isn't much chance of that happening, go for it. I did it with mine from day one and he was fine

Hello to you and your little cow Staffie
I agree with Shontelle. The danger is parasites/viruses like parvo that are mostly from other dogs. So if your yard is free of dogs, wild animals (and particularly poop) you're fine. We certainly had Callie in the backyard right away, in other yards with no dogs at about 11-12 weeks, but not in high-dog-traffic areas until 14 weeks.

if u are letting him out in the back yard try not to let him/her sniff around other animals or there poo and if there is any grass or weeds do not let it eat them as it could make him/her sick.

The nurse at Kennys vet told me to find 1 area of the garden, bleach it and rinse, and toliet train him there. But she told me to be very carefull. Parvo is about, 1 poor pup in the next street from me has sadly just lost his life
