Help! Does my puppy have tapeworm as I have found fleas :(
I always deworm/deflea my 6month old female staffy every month and gave her some flea treatment the other day as her worm tabs last 3months only to notice afew hours later she had something tiny/black on her face when I picked it off it was a flea! since then iv been going through her with the comb and found two and little specks of what resemble dirt? Anyway I don't know whether to get frontline/prac-tic or flea shampoo as tonight I am going to wash everything and vaccum but I do worry she might have tape-worm/worms because afew days ago I saw what looked like grains of rice in her poo but assumed it might of been the herbal food shes on (autarky/arden grange) but recently her poo is normal slightly loose but she hasnt been eating all her food she usually scoffs it all down the minute its put down but she is drinking and taking treats etc but she has been scratching her bottom/leg area alot and seems alittle depressed :S I am pretty sure she caught them a week ago off my mums friends dog who has long fur and a history of fleas... not happy please help id hate anything serious to happen to her! xx

If she has fleas, she may well have tapeworm.
What deworm and deflea products do you use?
Frontline doesn't seem to be as effective as it used to be; your best bet is to pop to your vet and they will give you some prescription deflea/worm stuff that'll be more effective, something like stronghold and a wormer for the tapeworm.
Stronghold will kill the fleas in the environment too so once you've treated with that then all you need to do is give everywhere a good clean and that should solve the problem if the infestation isn't bad.

Re: Help! Does my puppy have tapeworm as I have found fleas :(
All dogs in our family are given frontline for fleas & drontal for worms and never had a problem.
The vet said its got to be frontline/stronghold/advocate as all the other cheaper version are not as effective.
Personally I like to use a different medication for each ie FL for fleas & drontal for worms although others such as advocate are used to treat both.
Advocate I think is the only one that treats for lungworm.
Use a Hoover lots to bust out them fleas

Brillant advice guy's sorry for the late reply... I washed all her bedding, used flea shampoo, defleaded the back of her neck afew days after and she has had none since and put bits of garlic in her tea once a week definately wary of her being around longhaired dogs now though lol
